Ricky sits down on the love seat, staring at me. I pretend not to notice, but I feel bad. I take a piece of paper and write, 'I'm sorry Ricky. Can I give you an answer when we get to the hotel?' I fold it into a plane and throw it to Ricky. It lands on the floor next to Ricky. He picks it up and opens it. 'Hand me a crayon.' I throw a green one at him.
He puts the paper, flat on his leg. He starts writing something and folds it after he finishes writing. He throws it at me. I open it. 'Fine, but let's talk at least. I'm bored of David.' I laugh. I look up and I nod. I take another piece of paper, 'What's your favorite song you've sang?' I throw it back at him.
We continue to send paper planes, and surprisingly, David doesn't seem too jealous. But it might also be because he looks exhausted out of his mind. One of Ricky's plane message was, 'Would you rather date David or I?' I look up at him, and he's leaning over the couch. I roll my eyes at him and he smiles. I write down, 'Hmmm, probably Ritchie Valens.' I throw it back at him. He opens it, and he clearly looks cocky. He takes like a second to read it, and glances back at me. I smile because I know I'm an asshole.
He throws the plane back at me. 'Alright, I'll set you up on a date with him.' I look up after I read it and nod. 'Okay, do it. I love a king.' I throw it back. He gives me a disgusting glance and begins to write. 'Oh, I forgot, he can't. He doesn't like girls who have boyfriends.' He throws it at me and I catch it. I gasp, and flip him off. 'Shut up.' I throw it back at him.
We sent paper plane messages to each other the remainder of the drive to Palm Springs. My heart starts pounding as we get out the car at the hotel. I have to give him the answer. I knew mother wouldn't approve. There were always rumors at school that Ricky and I were dating, and Mom was always disgusted by the comments. He's like a brother to me, but maybe he's not?
