02 |  CHAPTER TWO

-

It was Friday. And she was waiting for the plane to take off. Ah, how nervous she is? She will be meeting her friends after such a long time. Five years, and Zeena's getting married. She's getting married and she was going to attend it, like yeah.

Azra breathed in and out and chugged down the water from the bottle. She closed her eyes after a sigh and let her head fall on the seat. She thought of canceling the plan and return back to her house. She looked at her wrist watch and thought.

'I still have five minutes; I can get back to my home. I can't do this.' Azra thought and put her head in between her hands and groaned.

"Excuse me, Mam? The plane is taking off, please kindly put on your seat belt," Azra's face craned towards the polite air hostess and nodded. She put on the seat belt. "Thank you."

With that, the air hostess left and the plane took off after three minutes. Exact.

. . .

Right when Azra landed in Kolkata, she chugged down a cup of caffeine. She really needed it bad. After collecting her luggage—she moved towards the exit. She tied her hair in a pony and disabled the flight mode in her mobile and stuffed it in her bag.

After walking towards the exit, her breathe hitched. There she was. Zeena Dulquer. Her best friend in her high school and she is—but Azra couldn't even seem to admit herself about that. Zeena waved her hand to Azra and she forced out a smile. She waved back.

And just when she was moving towards her, someone came in the scene too. For one second, her heart seemed to stop. She saw him. Arjun Sinha. Her ex, whom she loved to moon and back, that type of love where you would give anything to them, that teenager, tender and cringe love.

"You okay, Azra?"

Zeena's voice brought Azra back to the reality and for a moment, Azra thought she was going to cry. A breakdown.

"What is he doing here, Zeena?" Azra questioned, piercing her icy cold gaze towards him.

Zeena didn't answer. Not when her best friend was pointing out at her fiancé.

"I'm marrying him, Azra. He's my fiancé." Zeena said and Azra was about to fell down on her knees. She couldn't take it. That's why she said not to look at the wedding card earlier. And she knew. She knew that Azra won't attend the wedding if she saw who the groom is.

"I'm sorry, but like why?" Azra questioned and Zeena looked down. Zeena couldn't answer again. Azra scoffed. "No, I'm sorry, Zeena, but out of all people in this world, why him? You knew about him all the way, when I and he were dating!"

Zeena sighed. "Can we please talk about this after we got to our house? Please, Azra?"

"NO! I need answers, Zeena Dulquer." Azra concluded and Zeena looked at her with puppy eyes. Zeena was almost about to cry. She did expect something like this would happen, but she didn't expect this would happen.

"If I don't get my answers there, Zeena, I swear I would return back to Mumbai. No other doubts."

Zeena nodded and all this while, Arjun was silent. He didn't want to talk to his ex-girlfriend. He surely didn't want to handle Azra Malik. Everyone was terrified of her.

And they still are.

. . .

When they reached Zeena's house, Azra was the first to get down from the car and moved inside. Azra still remember this house—the house, where she and her other three spent their childhood together. They played, fought and loved in the same house.

Ah, the memories. She thought.

The house was filled with people. Many people. Azra was invited by Zeena, Meera and Aksa's moms. "Azra, how are you, darling?"

"I'm good, aunties. Missed you all, how are you?" She replied with a real smile. She was glad to see her childhood memories in front of her.

"We're fine, Azra. How is Sashi? When is she coming to the wedding?" At the mention of her mother's name, she smiled again.

"She's good aunty. She'll come on Sunday, you guys enjoy. I've to talk to...Zeena."

She bade them bye and took hold of Zeena and Arjun's hand. She led them to her room and closed the door.

"Now tell me!"

Both Arjun and Zeena flinched at her voice and she nodded.

"Azra, look, I know that you're angry. I understand," Azra scowled, "But listen to me."

"I'm listening."

Zeena took a deep breath. "I love him, Azy. I really do love him. I know what he did is wrong, very wrong, Azy, but trust me he changed. He was guilty when you left Kolkata, Azy. He regretted breaking up with you. He realized his mistakes. We spent the lot of time, searching for you. And in this while, I don't know what happened—we fell in love. Deeply. I know, I didn't tell you earlier, but I was scared. I was scared that you would hate me, after this, Azra. I'm sorry."

Azra didn't utter a word. She was hurt. Yes, she was, but is hating your best friend, (mind you, who met after five years,) worth your ex? Absolutely not.

"Look, Zeena, I agree with you, but you could have just told me. That you were going to marry him," she looked at Arjun who was staring at her, "Arjun," and then at Zeena, "I would have been sad. Of course, but I would be happy, that at least you told me, Zeena. I don't hate you, but I'm hurt. And...it's fine. If things were meant to be like this, let it be. I'm happy for you both."

Azra got up from the bed and hugged Zeena. Zeena started crying, while Arjun smiled looking at the duo. "I'm sorry, Azra, but thank you."

"It's fine, Arjun." But did she really mean that? No. she didn't forgive him, still. But she has to do it—for her best friend.

"Hey, you've a surprise!" Zeena squealed and Azra narrowed her eyes.

"What?"

"Come with me," she grasped Azra's hand and took her to the other room, where she could hear some music blasting out from the speakers.

She opened the door and both Zeena and Azra got in the room, to find two girls were dancing in their yoga pants and tank tops.

And when Zeena turned down the music, they both turned around.

And for the third time in the day, her breath hitched.

It was Meera and Aksa; her other two best friends. And right now, she was terrified. Both Meera and Aksa were looking at her with icy glares.
