The demons eventually left after killing Anna. Once the coast was clear Ray immediately ran over to Emma.
"EMMA!" She was out cold. They still had to leave, no matter what. They couldn't leave her behind so the only choice was to carry her.
Surprisingly, Emma probably only weighed about 95lbs considering she hadn't eaten for a whole week.
Ray sighed, "I'm the oldest right now, that's awake, so I guess I have to carry her."
As Ray picks up Emma he notices how light she is. He briefly thinks that she hasn't been eating well and her having to eat but he shakes his head and starts running.
After hours upon hours of jogging/running, the group takes a break.
Ray sets Emma on his sleeping bag and checks her temperature.
"Feels normal..."
He takes a second to admire how calm she looks. He notices that he's starring at her and looks away, with a faint blush dusting his cheeks.
"Nng..." Ray looks over and sees that Emma is waking up.
"Emma! Are you ok?" Ray asks, concern covering his expression.
"I...don't know. I feel sick." Emma says. Her eyes stay blank for a moment, they slowly widen.
As she remembers what happened to Anna, her hand covers her mouth and she gags.
Ray sees her gag and takes her into an embrace.
Don and Gilda on the other hand were talking to the kids about how it had to happen. A few of the younger kids were balling. Considering that Anna was a huge impact on their lives. She was nice and caring. Everyone felt an impact on her death, even Ray.
"Are we gonna camp here for the night?" Gilda asks.
Emma redeems herself, and nods, "Yeah. No ones in the mood to keep running I guess." She gives a weak smile but it quickly fades.
"I'm guessing the capitol is still on high alert. I bet past the capitol is crawling with demons too..."
Emma's thoughts are disrupted when Gilda taps on her shoulder, "Emma. You should go to sleep."
"Oh! Yeah sorry!" She smiles. Gilda returns it and cuddles back into her sleeping bag.
Soon Emma drifts to sleep.
———-Next Morning———-
Emma's eyes flutter open, everyone is awake and cooking breakfast on a fire.
She smiles gently before yawning, "Morning!"
Ray smiles back at her, "Good morning, Emma."
"I can't believe that we've made it so far. We don't even have a map!"  Emma thinks.
Ray interrupts those thoughts and hands her a plate of meat.
"Hope you like duck. We caught it when you were you asleep." Ray says with a light smile.
Emma smiles and takes the plate at digs in. Her tummy feeling full even with one bite. She knew she had to finish it in order to get energy, even if she didn't feel hungry.
Ray notices that she's picking at her food and says, "If you don't like it I'll make something else."
Emma shakes her head, "It's fine! Actually it's amazing! I just can't remember the last time I ate. I know it was at the house."
"You need it for energy."
"I know I know."
"Anyways," Ray changes the subject, "How's your knee?"
Emma cringes at the memory of Mom breaking her knee, "It doesn't stop me from moving so it's fine."
"Can I see it?" Ray asks.
Emma nods and takes her leg out of the sleeping bag and shows it to Ray.
He lightly touches it but Emma still winces.
"It still hurts a lot doesn't it?" Ray asks in a stern voice.
"Erm...it doesn't hurt that much..."
Ray takes his hand and lightly slaps her knee. Emma screams in agony, "RAY!"
Ray frowns, "I barley even touched it. You should put something cold on it."
Emma pouts, "Your not my dad..."
"Well no one here is willing to take care of you and I am your family." Ray says raising his voice a little.
Emma smiles and says, "Yup!"
"Damn, why'd I have to fall in love with her..?"
