It was early in the afternoon a few days later when I approached Maka who seemed to be working hard with Saki, Tsubaki, Liz and Patty on something in a notebook in front of her.
When I approached the table and Saki said hello, Maka quickly slammed the book shut and turned to me with a grin, "Hey there Kirinna!"
"Hello..." I trailed off for a moment, slightly concerned with all of their weird actions. What exactly was in that book that she was hiding from me?
"I came to ask if you knew anyone by the name of Sophia. Sophia Klimt."
Maka hummed as she put a finger to her lips, "I'm not sure. What class is she in?"
"She's in the NOT class."
"Oh! I remember her." Liz announced, everyone's heads turning to her, "She comes to death cafe almost every morning, shoulder length brown hair and dark green eyes right?"
I nodded quickly, "I wanted to ask if she's been involved in anything with you guys recently. The day I got sick... she came to me telling me these rumours about Black Star and told me to stay away from him."
"Huh?" Maka grumbled, "She's spreading rumours about Black Star? I mean, that's not that uncommon."
Tsubaki sighed, "It's not, but usually people are just looking down on him. What kind of rumour was it?"
"She said he beat up some girl and left her in a dumpster. I don't understand though, Black Star would never-"
I stiffened as Maka burst out laughing, and Liz snorted as she attempted to hide her own laugh. I stood in front of them all dumb founded, wondering why the hell they were laughing.
"I can't believe it! Should have realized there would be other people around!" Maka wheezed.
"Yeah no kidding!" Liz added.
Tsubaki was smiling brightly when she turned to me, "About a year ago now when we were all doing training as a group, Maka and Black Star had a huge fight and she hit him. So later that night, she asked him to hit her back so they were even - he did and she flew back into a garbage bin." The girl explained, "So it's obvious that whoever started that rumour did so just to try and bring down Black Star."
"Yahoo!! You guys talking about me?" Black Star asked, appearing out of nowhere to join the conversation, "Whats that notebook for?"
"N-nothing! Mind your own business!" Maka hissed, causing Black Star to tilt his head in utter confusion.
"Someone's spreading rumours about you again, Black Star!" Patty grinned, finally looking up from her drawing.
"Really? Ugh, lame." He turned to me, not caring at all for even a second about the rumours, "You heard the rumours huh? Just ignore them."
I frowned, "But... but it was Sophia who told me. She told me to stay away from you."
The male seemed to tense at my words, and I could feel the anger radiating off of him in an instant,
"That fucking bitch."

I quickly followed behind his fast steps, the other girls not too far behind either, mumbling behind about what they all knew the boy was about to do. Soul was meeting up with Maka to check on all the commotion when I looked back, before jogging a few steps to catch up with Black Star.
"Black Star, please!" I breathed, feeling frustrated with how gung-ho he was about this. He was actually going to confront Sophia this time, even though all I ever wanted was to just forget.
He scoffed, finally stopping for a moment to look at me, and I was frozen under his intense gaze,
"That night, when I had to come get you, because she left you in the middle of nowhere and you cried all fucking night, I was so angry, I was heart broken listening to you - you asked me to forget it so I did my best. But now after all this time she's still trying to cause you hardship, and I'm not just gonna stand by and let it happen this time!"
I pursed my lips, taking in a breath as I took in his words. His gaze was still intense, but in that moment I knew that if I asked him again to stop he would - he was waiting for permission to continue.
"Okay." I nodded, and with that he was off to continue hunting that girl down, the one who betrayed me and the trust I had for her.
Steins words from three years ago when I left this place repeated in my mind, and yeah, I didn't really care if she regretted what she did or not anymore. But maybe, just maybe, this was the karma that was always coming for her. Black Star, the boy that everyone in this school now feared and respected, would come for her and set her straight.

When we caught up with Black Star, he stood towering over Sophia, who looked horrified beside her meister.
"Leave us alone, asshole!"
"I'm not talking to you." He growled, "I'm talking to Sophia."
"Stay away from her! You can't just-"
"I can do whatever the fuck I want!" He yelled, finally shutting the girl up. I stood just a few steps in front of Maka and the others, Professor Stein was already there in case a fight broke out.
"You told Kirinna to stay away from me. Who the fuck are you to say things like that to her? You don't know me at all!"
"W-well!" Sophia stuttered out, standing up for herself, "I was trying to help her! Kirinna's my friend!"
"The last thing you are to Kirinna is a friend! Did you forget what you did to her all those years ago?! You're the reason she cried! You're the reason she left for so long! And now that she's back you're filling her head with bullshit and causing her more issues!"
"No I'm not! I didn't do anything wrong! Kirinna doesn't understand, I was going through a lot back then, I have serious anxiety and-"
"Shut up! I don't give a shit! That's not an excuse for what you did!"
I gasped as Sophia's weapon partner went to hit him, and he easily caught her wrist in a deathly grip, "The fuck are you doing? You want a fight?" He asked, his gaze hardened and his eyes shined into stars.
The girl hesitated, "Yeah I want to fight! You're just one guy, and you're all talk!"
"All talk huh?" He chuckled dryly, "Alright then, let's go! You both against me alone, I'll take you on and ruin you both!"
The crowd that had gathered around was silent, and so were Sophia and her meister, and so was Black Star as he waited for an answer. The girls looked horrified as he smirked, and I knew well how his blood would be boiling right now, how his adrenaline was beginning to flow through his body and he was already planning how he would knock them out with one deathly blow of his soul wave length.
"Well?" He asked again, taunting the girls.
I sighed as Sophia burst into tears. Of course they would be too afraid to face Black Star, anyone would be.
Sophia has always been afraid. She said she was afraid of being alone to me, but she was really only afraid of being looked down on by people who were more popular. She wanted more attention, wanted to be more widely accepted, or something, and she deemed me as worthless when she was searching for that very thing she would never achieve.
Now, I was far stronger than she would ever be, and when her meister cursed at Black Star and walked off, I slowly approached him. If it weren't for him, I wonder if I would still be alone.
It was Black Star who taught me to be strong, who always smiled at me and always let me tag along with him no matter what.
I fell into his arms, hugging him tightly, "Thank you!" I whispered, his arms wrapping tight around me.
I love you, I thought, but I couldn't say it.
