The fight against the giants and the mother nature was continuing.
Annabeth knelt down beside Malcolm, her half brother, who sacrificed himself to protect a Roman girl. Her knees were throbbing after the long fight, the poison of Kampe seared Annabeth's cheek. All She could see were injured and dead demigods, both Greeks and Romans, lying over the ground, only some of the campers or legionnaires were still able to fight.
Greek fire was burning so bright over the cabins, it almost reminded Annabeth the battle of Manhattan.
Boom!
Another explosion. Annabeth felt like her eardrums couldn't hold any longer. The camp, her only home since she was seven, had now became a battle field.
What is the meaning of life like this.
Annabeth thought. Fight and fight until your beloved ones are gone. And fight again and again to see all the betrayal and abandon. Seeing all the broken hearts, misery tears that could fill up a pool. And still keep fighting until you lose everything.
Annabeth turned around and slashed a monsters.
Be strong.
She remembered Bob had said. But how? She felt like she couldn't bare all these pressure anymore. A drop of tear fell down from her grey eyes, instead of the stormy grey her eyes usually were, they were more like rainy, sad, like broken glass.
She couldn't concentrate on the fight anymore. She thought about how Luke stabbed himself with her dagger. She thought about Beckendorf and Silena. She thought about the moment when she woke up and lost Percy. She thought about the pain Athena left her with. She thought about the arai's curse that made she felt Percy had abandoned her. And now facing her enemies destorying her home.
Annabeth was tired.
A terrible impulse to surrender shot through her.
No.
She had to do it for Percy.
She tried to recall those happy memories with him, the medicine that heal her everytime. But strangely, she couldn't.
His sea green eyes, messy hair, the salty smell, the trouble maker's smirk, all those little things were blurred.
Annabeth have never been confused and frightened at the same time.
"Annabeth!" Percy yelled as a monster attacked the daughter of Athena. Annabeth didn't respond, she stood there like she had looked into Medusa's eyes, like a mable statue. She was trying to see through those blurred memories, because deep in her heart, that was what mattered most.
But it was too late, when Percy's waterspout hit the monster, its spear had already went through Annabeth's body.
The world finally quiet down. She thought.
