Long Chapter!
My alarm started beeping like crazy. I rolled over and mechanically turned it off. Five o'clock. I yawned and swung myself out of bed. Tuesdays are just as bad as Mondays. It was raining dismally outside. I grabbed my phone and checked for messages. The first thing that caught my eye was a text from Kay. Kay had been my "friend" for about a year now. I couldn't get to close to him though, or one of us would be removed to a different school or something. The brilliant FBI again. The only time I wasn't in danger of being monitored was when I was out of the house. But my cell still had a GPS system that was closely watched by the FBI.
They didn't want to lose their most valuable secret weapon. They called me 'more powerful than an atomic bomb', and 'vital to the U.S. of A.'. I was sick of it. The U.S. doesn't have the same ring. It sounds different to different people. History is my favourite subject at school. I should be proud of America. I mean, it has done some great things. And the FBI is pretty good too. It makes mistakes though. And it made a huge mistake with me.
About a month ago, he had asked if he could be my companion at the school picnic. I didn't really care. After all, I didn't really like outings. But my parents wanted me to go so that I could make some new friends and seem normal. After all, it was my first year at a new school. I checked the clock again. It was ten after. I stood and went to take a shower.
It was recess again. A lot of people began pointing at me and whispering as I walked through the cafeteria doors. Cassi's rumour mill was awesome to behold. But I didn't care. I was too tired. I went over to a bench in a corner and sat down. I pulled out my I-Phone and played some music. Coeli Silver was my favourite artist. She had an impeccable voice that was very soothing. I closed my eyes as I listened to the lyrics.
"Hey! What are you doing here?" I was startled. It was Cassi's boy-friend, Carson Whitchel.
"How are you, Carson?" I replied.
I tried to be polite. He squinted down at me, as though trying to figure me out. A shock of straight black hair fell down his face.
"You better leave Cassi alone." He stared hard at me. I stared down at the ground and viewed his muddied Keds. It was still raining outside.
"Did you hear me?" He almost yelled. He raised his fist menacingly.
I put on a terrified face. "Yes," I whispered softly. He smirked and walked away with Clay. I could hear him remarking, "I told you she was a coward." Clay nodded in agreement.
Inwardly, I almost smiled. I was no coward, but I'd hardly like to use the Taser in my purse to take out a guy like Carson. I stood and went to the lunch line, which had dwindled to only a few people. Seriously, schools should stop serving baloney and lasagna every day. I managed to grab some fruit and pickles to go with it before I went back to my secluded corner and sat down.
Suddenly, a ruckus broke out on the other side of the room. I looked up mid-pickle slice. Carson was arguing with Tate. I was about to ignore the whole thing when I saw Carson raised his fist threateningly. Tate continued talking. Carson pushed him. Tate shrugged Carson off. I could see what was coming as the other people crowded.
"Fight! Fight! Fight!" They chanted
I frowned and stood up. Time to stop this. But I was mentally warning myself: "You shouldn't get yourself involved." Carson grabbed Tate by the collar. "Okay. Fine. Let's do this." Grabbing my now empty lunch tray, I began heading towards the trashcan on the one on the other side of the room. I had to walk right by Tate and Carson. Carson was so preoccupied with aiming his fist towards Tate's face; he didn't even see it coming. As I walked by, I twisted my foot up and neatly tripped him. At least the FBI had taught me something useful. He fell back on the ground, swearing. The people around him laughed. Tate glanced up at me, looking shocked.
I dropped my tray and quickly left the scene by exiting the nearest doorway. Bad move. A couple of Carson's buddies ran out the door behind me. They quickly spotted me, and they began to run towards me. "Maybe I will have to use that Taser after all!" I contemplated to myself as I raced down the hallway. I stopped suddenly. It was a dead-end! I ran into one of the empty classrooms, through the door on my right. Paintings were everywhere. Art class. Ugh!
I raced to find a hiding place but knocked over one of the easels, spattering green paint on my black T-shirt. I backed up against one of the painting-covered-walls as they burst through into the room. Clay was one of them, as well as Carson's best friend, Matt. My hand reached down fishing my purse for the Taser.
"What's going on in here?" A voice thundered from behind my attackers. I looked passed Clay and Matt. It was Roy.
