"Name." "Robin Maple" I repeated. Why do they need to no my name if that's how they called me back here. "City." "Lamon" I said with a small hint of worry that I choked out accidentally. "Pick out a piece." I am so confused about what they are talking about then I turned and behind me was a row of 10 glass bowls with thin sheets of folded paper. I walked across feeling the pieces of paper. I stopped at the 7th bowl ,I felt something unusual inside. Nothing was their except a feeling tingling inside my stomach rapidly. I stuffed my hand inside and I felt one specific piece. It gave an opposite feeling. I crumbled it then pulled it out with massive force scattering the other ones giving them flight. " Hand it to me." I obeyed willingly. "Leave" I walked off the stage clicking my heels.
What is my purpose? People were waiting for me and grabbed my arms pulling me with impeccable force. I was shoved into a car and drove quickly alone. I was alone in the back seat ,their was a separating border between me and the driver. Their were no windows and no lights. Darkness conceled me. I sat tapping my foot. I didn't know what I was doing but the tap was to the beat of a song my mom sang me as a child.
Twinkle twinkle little star
How I wonder what you are
Up above a world so high
Like a diamond in the sky
Twinkle twinkle little star
How I wonder what you are
We stopped and I flung forward slamming my head on the seat. I opened the door and we were in front of a castle belonging to the first king and queen. "Today you and others will say here tonight, you will find your purpose tomorrow" said a old wrinkly woman. I am guided into the castle and sent to one of the lots of rooms and told to go straight to sleep. The room was made of stone bricks ,moss was growing on the edges peaking out into my room. Their was a bed laying on that wall it had velvet covers with gold lined edges and a black cross marking the center. The pillows were navy blue and silver. The base of it was wooden and had a design line Roman numerals on it. This bed was huge I was told it was a queen size. The bed looked about 10 feet by 10 feet. I've only slept in a bed once and that was when I was being shipped to the facility. My family was to large to afford beds for everyone. Only my parents had a bed and then it was a twin size. My family lives in the city of Lamon. This city is know for where the poor or where people with disabilities go live. My mom worked as a maid for the Testifcor. So we had little money. In my city crime is all that you here about. People are always stealing food supplies sometimes even children.
On my 8th birthday my dad had just lost his job. He worked for a tattoo company in Crystal, that closed down and he never told anyone. I was rounding the streets looking for wealthy merchants to beg with. Then my hunger took the best of me. It controlled me. My muscles, movements, thoughts, and actions. On the city stage was a stand and there running a stand was a man pulling out the warm fresh bread from the oven behind him. Trays of rolls and loafs lay beside him. The smell drifted to my nose and reeled me in like fishing line. I waited in the line free on money and no plan, I just knew I needed that bread. I got up to the stand." Hello young lady" the man said " how may I help you." Then I heard a ding. " oh, my bread 1 second please." This was the perfect chance. I grabbed as many loafs as possible than ran. I sprinted as fast as I could. No one saw me . I went into my house. Laid the loafs on the table and my whole family shared a delicious meal.
I laid down in the velvet bed trying hard to sleep the sun was falling under the clouds. I couldn't sleep at all. All I could do was think about him.
The facility. I shared a room with 2 girls and 1 guy. His name was Ryan. We were best friends since day 1. I wouldn't do anything without consulting him first. Each free moment we had I would go to him. At the facility girls and boys learn separate. Boys were meant to guard, farm, serve, model, and do manual labor. Women were meant to sew, nanny, serve, clean, and do medical work. Ryan and I were both from Lamon. He lived on the south side which means his family lived only on government provided food. His family had no yearly income. So his purpose will be worse than mine. I lived on the east side. So I live in the best part, anywhere in lamon is bad so my purpose won't be good either. Neither of us ever talked about that though. We didn't praise the government like the teachers here make us do. We believed our purpose should be decided by us. At age 15 girls and boys were separated into different dorms. I only saw Ryan every month after that. We would meet in the small closet and just talk for hours. Than sneak back to our dorms. One night the summer solstice specifically. It was Ryan's birthday and I was able to bake him a cake. It had green frosting and "Ryan" was spelled across and it had one candle in the middle. That night we meet in the closet. I went slowly and sneaky through the silver halls wearing my green dress. Green was Ryan's favorite color and he always was telling me how beautiful I looked in it. We were 17 years old. He entered the closest with his head down. " Ryan is that you." " Ya Robin" he whispered choking on his breath." Ryan, lift up your head" I demanded forcefully. He did as told. His eye was blue and swolen, his face was pale. " Ryan what happened!" " My father is on some bad drugs and they backfired on me." I wrapped my arms around him so tight but I couldn't let go and neither could he. " oh I almost forgot" I said. I pulled out the cake "happy birthday." " oh Robin." " blow out your candle" I said. " But Robin it's not lit." "Oh Ryan remember I'm a lady I shouldn't use fire." We both started laughing. Then we dug in and fiercely devoured the whole thing. Then he blew the unlit candle out. " What did you wish for" I asked him. " this." He pulled my lips to his. Their was a strong fiery sense that made me just want to kiss him more. " I love you Robin." "Ryan" I moaned. Then he pulled me closer and we kissed again. " I love you too."
It took me forever to finally go to sleep. I kept thinking about him. Then I looked at my Robin bracelet. I still had it on. Then I got out of bed and kelt on the edge of my bed. I prayed for Ryan's good purpose and that I will see him again. I still love him.
