Chapter 5: A Car Accident

It was the weekend before Halloween. Bucky and the boys were coming back from a college party at University South Carolina. They were well fucked high and drunk.

Mason thought he was okay to drive back home. Just as they entered the town that was 30 minutes from Myrtle Beach it started to rain. All the other boys were asleep as they were in Mason's truck.

The sound of the rain the headlights of on coming traffics and the look of the pouring rain was starting to get to Mason. They had done some shrums at the party. He did more than the others.

He started hallucinate and caused him to freak out. He swerved to miss something that wasnt there and hydroplaned into on coming traffic. Another car tried to stop but ultimately hydroplaned right into them and causing another car to hit them. That made Mason's truck flip twice.

James was working on a emergency surgery at the hopsital. He heard a page "Gloria see whose pager that?" He said.

"Its yours sir.." she said

"Call it.." James said as he was pulling bullets out.

Gloria left the OR and came back 10 minutes later. "Dr Barnes..your son has been in a car accident." She said

"Which son Gloria..I have three boys." He said

"James Barnes." She said a little confused

"My youngest..um get me Dr Langdon..and find my wife." He said

Dr Langdon a fellow colleague came in. Winnie was waiting for him in the ER. She was a complete mess. They drove to Hickory Grove Hospital.

"Hi Im looking for my son James Buchanan Barnes." James said

"Right this way." The nurse said

They followed her to the back and into Bucky's ER room. "The doctor will be right with you." She said

Winnie gently kissed his head. "Baby what happened?" She whispered.

The doctor came in. "Mr and Mrs Barnes. Im Dr Rhimes." He said

"Nice to meet you." James said as he shook his hand.

"Okay..so your son is very lucky. He has the cuts on his face. A concussion a bruised shoulder. Possible whip lash from all the flipping. The police will be in with their witness reports. Also his blood alcohol level was well above legal..he had oxy xananx htc and marjiuana.." he said

"Oh James baby." Winnie whispered.

The police came in a few minutes later. "So what we know so far your son was sitting on the left side behind the driver. The truck according to witnesses said the truck swerved into on coming traffic. The first car tried to swerve but hydroplaned themselves that caused a second car to crash into them sending the truck into another flip." He said

"And my friends.." Bucky said very groggily.

"Right now you and a Deacon Johns The Rutherfords and Weston Boyer are the only ones that have woken up." The officer said

"Mason Boyer? He was the one driving..what happened to him?" Bucky said

"James honey you need to calm down." Winnie said

"Dont tell me to calm down. What happened to Mason?!" He yelled.

The Boyers' heard him cause they were next door. John Boyer knocked on the door.

"Come in.." Bucky said

"Buck.." John said

"John..what happened to Mason?" He said

"Right now Mason is still unconscious with very little brain activity. Umm..he had taken off his seat belt I guess after the first car. But then the second car hit you all and caused you all to flip twice so he never got a chance to put it back on he never saw that car coming." John said

"He had the highest amount of drugs in his system compared to you other boys." The officer said

Bucky looked down. "Can I see him?" He said

"Yeah.." John said he helped him up and he helped him walk to the other room. All the boys were in the room they were all bruised up and cut up.

"He saved you boys. If he had woken you all up to say anything..you may not be standing here boys." Mary said.

Mason was intebated. "Dad.." Bucky whispered

"Son..there is nothing I can do..if he has very little activity." James said

"But dad..you are the best..do something!!" Bucky yelled at him.

James closed his eyes and walked out. A few days later they all said their good byes to Mason. They didnt have the same optimism as Mary.

They showed up drunk and high at his funeral. And when they returned to school their attitude was worse. Bucky's behavior at home was worse as he resented James for not helping his friend.

It was the first tutoring session since the accident. Bucky wanted no part of Charlotte or the session. She finally said "look I get it you are grieving and you are mad but you are still here and you still have to do the work."

"Shut up! Just Shut your fucking god damn mouth Charlotte." He yelled

"James please.." she said

*smack*

"I said to shut up.." Bucky said

He gathered his stuff "Fuck off Charlotte Im done with this bullshit." He said and walked out.

Charlotte felt tears and a sting where he smacked her cheek. She gathered her stuff and his folder she walked to the office.

"Here Mr Coulson..I quit.." she said

"Ms Baylor what happened to your face?" Coulson said

She explained to him to what happened then left the school. Bucky took home Trixie Mason's girl and comforted her in bed.
