"His quirk is...what?" The mother looked at the doctor with wide eyes, not wanting to believe it. Her quirk was telekinesis and her husband's was an empathy quirk that allowed him to feel someone else's emotions and manipulate them. So why did their son have such...such an evil quirk?!

"I'm sorry, I know it must be hard to hear." The doctor said in sympathy, looking though Shinsou's records on his desk.

The father was angry, you could tell by the way his face scrunched up and his fists clenched at his sides. "A brain-washing quirk? Only a villain would have something like that!" the man yelled, his teeth bared in fury as he glared at the small child sitting next to him.

Shinsou's eyes widened in fright as he looked over to his father and saw how furious he was. Was his quirk really that bad? Hitoshi had thought it was pretty cool sounding when the doctor had first said it, so why was mom sad and dad angry? Why did the nice doctor suddenly look at him with a cold gaze?

"As much as I hate to say this, your son will most likely become a villain with a quirk like his." The doctor said with a straight face, not even caring that Hitoshi's world was crumbling apart around him.

"He's no son of mine." The father growled out, looking at his son in disgust.

The mother gasped, looking at him in shock "Honey--you can't mean that!"

"I do. I'm not taking that thing back to our house, so you either choose him or me. I'm not going to raise a villain and end up being killed in my sleep one night!"

In the end, Shinsou's mother choose his father over him. And that's how, at the young age of 4, Shinsou Hitoshi became an orphan.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Life at the orphanage wasn't easy. Shinsou learned that very early on. Since he had such a 'dangerous quirk' everyone was scared of him, even the adults. They refused to speak to him unless completely necessary and isolated him from the other kids.

Thankfully one of the workers took pity on him and taught him sign language, hoping that he would use that instead of talking. Though not many people knew sign, so he was still limited in socialization.

Shinsou was 6 when he met his first cat. Hitoshi had sneaked away from the orphanage and had decided to roam around the city with his newfound freedom. He was walking through an alleyway and a sudden loud noise from a nearby dumpster startled him, causing him to jerk back in surprise. "Uh...hello?" The purple-haired boy cautiously went over to the trashcan and peered inside, shocked at the sight of a small black kitten. They meowed at him weakly, their tiny and skinny form shaking from the cold. Shinsou carefully picked them up, holding them to his chest as he gazed at the feline. "Were you abandoned too?" He whispered sadly, looking around the alley for the owner. When he found no one his eyes landed back on the cat, petting their head gently. The cat purred, making a rare smile tug at his lips. They were dirty and matted but Hitoshi didn't mind as he happily ran his hand down their back.

"Shinsou!"

Hitoshi flinched at the yell and looked down at the cat sadly. "Looks like they found out I was gone...I should go back." He bit his bottom lip nervously as he thought about bringing the cat with him. He could hide him, right? It shouldn't be that hard. Shinsou decided to risk it and hid the kitten in his jacket before heading back.

They would later look back and regret that decision.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

A week later, the kitten was found by the owner of the orphanage. Shinsou had been good about hiding them in an old storage room but unfortunately, the cat had made a lot of noise during the night and someone went to investigate.

The next day, Hitoshi cried when he found out that they had killed it. He had lost his only friend.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hitoshi!"

Shinsou ran, his long legs carrying him quickly through the street and away from his current foster mother. 'Not that she'll be for long.' He thought bitterly to himself as he escaped. It had now been 10 years, constantly getting passed around homes like a sick game of hot potato. They usually didn't even keep him for a month before passing him on to the next poor unfortunate soul.
