Julia
"Zombies?" I said, staring blankly at the television. It was a helicopter shot of Ontario, Canada. Sickly colored beings were limping, moaning, and tripping over the dead bodies of the many who they had killed and eaten over the past three days. The meager group of survivors had been ushered into the state of Maine, where I have been living for the past fifteen years.
Katie looked at me. "Julia, I swear, that stuff was faked. Like, a prank by the news people or something." I shook my head, tired of watching the figures on the T.V. screen grope around in the dark for remaining human flesh. I picked up the remote and slammed my finger on the power button.
"They wouldn't be broadcasting it to the world if it was a prank." I argued, suddenly getting an extreme case of the chills. After a long silence, I spoke. "Canada is right next to us." I said, barely whispering. "They could be here any time with no warning." She shook her head in disgust. "I seriously can't believe you would believe this shit. I'm gonna go set up my sleeping bag~" I cut her off. "No!" After her contradicting look, I sheepishly continued. "Uhm, I mean... why don't we sleep in here tonight?"
She chuckled. "Alright, if you wanna break the rules of our Sunday night sleepover, then go ahead." After she saw my guilty expression, she burst out laughing. "I'll sleep on the floor."
After Katie left the room, I buried my head in my hands. I didn't know what to think, so what ended up running through my head was: thinking, I'm thinking, thinkinggg~
Ding dong!
I was smacked out of my trance as the door bell rang. "Who is it?!" Katie shouted from my room upstairs. "I dunno! Lemme check!" I yelled back.
Getting up from the leather couch, I headed towards the door. My hand rested on the doorknob hesitantly, but I shook away my fears, feeling silly for actually believing in this stuff. I swung the door open and smiled. The sheriff grinned at me as well, and motioned to the small group of five people behind him. "Hello, Julia. Allow myself to introduce Kara, Jimmy, Harry, Sara, and Daniel." I rose my eyebrows before replying. "How can I help you?" I asked, keeping my smile plastered on my face. He motioned with his hand to my living room. "May we come in?"
"Honey, who is it?" My mom asked, walking in from the kitchen. "Oh," She said, glancing at the sheriff tight-lipped. "Hello Carrey." He said, tension growing. Ever since my dad left, my mom had been dating the sheriff. Right about now I assumed they had gotten in a fight and weren't planning on speaking to each other.
"So... why did you bring them here?" I asked, talking so my mom didn't have to. "Well, these are some of the survivors of the recent... you know..." I shook my head. "Canada?" I said. He nodded.
I started to observe the five other teens in the room. Kara had short blonde hair, the blue tips barely brushing her shoulders. A white tank top accompanied by a lime green crop top and jean shorts identified her as the confident one. On the other hand, Sara was definitely the "nerd" of the group. Huge black glasses and a white blouse tucked into the waistband of a long turquoise skirt. She definitely rocked the outfit, though.
Daniel... he was something else. Sparkling ice blue eyes with Justin Bieber style black hair, along with a pair of jeans and a light blue t-shirt. He had a slightly depressing aura around him, though. Jimmy looked like any average guy, light brown hair that was slightly ruffled. It looked like he had been running his fingers through it recently. He had on a plain Life's Good red t-shirt, and blue jeans.
I kind of goggled at Harry before really taking in his appearance. Perfect curly brown hair, bright green eyes and a huge smile that made my heart flutter. He was wearing a white t-shirt and black jeans. I quickly looked away when our gazes met.
