The bright glares of morning sunlight seeped through the curtains in their room. It was the middle of summer, so you could already hear the chattering of people outside going for a walk in the sun. It was 8:00am.

Lili hadn't slept well. She'd kept tossing and turning in her sleep, never managing to find a comfortable enough position. Her head ached like crazy - it burned. She'd had to get up twice in the night to take painkillers, but they didn't seem to work at all.

She couldn't take it anymore and decided to just wake up before it got worse.

She sat up in bed, head drooping into her own hands. She felt woozy and unstable. She couldn't think right.

Beside her, Cole was fast asleep. He looked so peaceful. Lili knew that if he was awake, he'd know exactly what to do. Usually, when Lili was ill, he'd tuck her up in bed and give her a hug and a kiss on the forehead. And then he'd go downstairs and make her breakfast in a tray and bring it up to her. Together, they'd sit cuddled up under the duvet watching cartoons as if they were still children.

Lili loved everything about those mornings: just the two of them. But she didn't want to trouble him through all that today. So instead, she sat there for a few minutes watching him sleep and somehow it seemed to calm her down.

After a while, she'd gathered up enough energy to stand and she quickly rose to her two feet. She only then realised that she had maybe got up a little too quick. She felt her stomach churning - it wasn't a pleasant feeling. She went completely pale in the face and her teeth began to chatter rapidly.

Oh.

As fast as she could, she sprinted to the bathroom and over to the toilet seat. She almost collapsed onto the ground as she threw up.

Well, there goes the Chinese from yesterday.

Lili washed her face and managed to drink a glass of water before she dizzily, returned to the bed where Cole was asleep. She sunk down into the mattress beside him and sat there for another few minutes, trying to get her head around.

"Good morning, baby," a voice said. It was Cole. He was still sort of half-asleep.

Trying to pretend like nothing was wrong, Lili faced towards him and smiled.

"Morning."

"You okay, Lili? How did you sleep?" he asked wearily.

Lili hesitated for a second. She didn't know what stopped her from telling Cole that she didn't feel great at all, and slept terribly.

"Slept fine."

Cole gazed into her eyes for a few seconds and smirked in a cute way. He stretched out his arms above him, letting out a yawn. Then, he turned on his front and dug his head back into the pillow. Lili smiled weakly. What a lazy ass, she whispered. But she knew that he hadn't slept much these past few days and didn't blame him.

Lili turned away from Cole. She looked around the room, for no particular reason. But something did catch her eye. Her clothes. Her yellow top and denim shorts from yesterday were lying on the floor. She didn't remember them being there.

I guess I was way too tired last night and didn't give a shit.

But something else. Something else caught her eye: it was shimmering as it reflected off the sunlight coming through the curtains.
