I never realized how truly intense police work could be until I went on a ride along that could have killed me.
It was a pretty quite night not too much, we walked around a little. They were trying to keep me save as much as possible if we were walking one was in front of me and one was behind me.
Our world today is so bad that they have to worry about the riders more then anything. They aren't concerned with their safety any more, but the people riding with them.
It was about 6 in the morning when we got a possible ambush situation. We had to respond because we were close to the building already. We got their and my side was the part protecting the officers from possible fire, but because I'm an explorer he wasn't too worried about me. I was sweeping the tops of the buildings when he told me to watch the door.
He needed to get his rifle but couldn't see the door from where he was at. More eyes are better then only two. So I did.
And let me tell you right now, I felt sooooo bad for the guy working. You know just casually going about your day when a team of officers walk in guns in hand.
In the end it was just a false alarm, but if someone had... I would have been a sitting duck but I would have been a last resort to help those officers if someone HAD shot at them. I would have been the only help with in a few miles.
And at 6 in the morning traffic was bad and would take more officer, swat, or medical personal at least 10 minutes. Enough time for two people to bleed out and die.
I had to be prepared to try to take them from harm's way within a moment's notice.
