(POV: Astra)

It's been 6 days since Amadi and his friends lived with us. Nothing really happened since that night and the letter. But today's the Grand Ball.

The Grand Ball is just basically a ball for the wealthy or famous people in our town of. It happens every year with the host being chosen by the city hall of Louisville, Kentucky. Either by, yes, wealth or popularity. This year, my father got chosen to host. The Grand Ball makes me think about the Winter's Ball that happened that happened a long time ago.

I sit in my chair listening to my teacher, Ms. Greenhare, talk about mathematics and stuff like that. I was too busy thinking the Grand Ball that will be hosted by my father tomorrow and Amadi. I started to doze off in my thoughts until someone tapped my shoulder.

I turn over to the side to see who tapped me. It was Charlotte, my childhood friend. "You're dozing off again." She whispered. "I'm sorry, Charlotte." I sighed.

"This the eighth time you've dosed off like that! Thinking about the Grand Ball?"

"Yeah..?"

"Guessing with your father hosting it this year you have to do a lot of work, right?"

"Not exactly.."

"Then what?" Charlotte asked. "Well.. It's about a boy—" I say. "Is there something more important than math we need to talk about!?" Ms. Greenhare blurts out at us. I start to turn red in embarrassment. Ms. Greenhare is really good at catching students who aren't paying attention. She's actually kinda mean at points.."Class, I know the Grand Ball is tomorrow and all of you are excited but we still have work to do." Ms. Greenhare then explains. "So turn your math books to page 234 and answer question 14."

I do as she says but I start to think about everything again. I know Charlotte and my other classmates

After Class

"It looks like class is over!" Ms. Greenhare says. We start gathering each others stuff. "Who's the boy?" Charlotte says moving her reddish brown hair smirking. I look up at her  and look back down. "Come on, girl!" She tells me. "I'm your best friend! We always tell secrets!" "Not this one.." I say back.

"All you need to know is I'll be with him during the Grand Ball." Charlotte turns her head in confusion as I speak. "So?" She says. "I'll be with my sister, Kindra, also. Just in case." I pick up all my stuff and walk out of the class out to head outside.

"Miss Palmer!" Another voice says behind me. I turn around to hear who this person was. It was a  boy. He had very red hair, just like me, deep green eyes, and freckles splattered all over his face. He was running up to me with a note in his hand. "Oh hello. Aren't you Adrian?" I ask. "That'd be my name." He said as he stopped. I don't know why, but I've always felt he had a good way of using words. Was he taught to do that? I honestly don't know.

"What did you need?" I go on to question. "Would you mind giving this to your sister when you get home?" Adrian says giving me the note in his hand. I already knew what this note was about. Adrian began to turn pink. I thought it was a good idea for a second. I realized she's heading to the Grand Ball with me, Amadi, and Obi.

I give the small note back to Adrian looking down. "Sorry Adrian, but I'm pretty sure Kindra is going to the Grand Ball with someone else." Adrian's face suddenly turns white fast. "D-D-Do you know who she's going with!?" He stutters under his breath. "No" I lie. "But it was nice of you to think about my sister. Um.. Goodbye." I start to walk away towards a carriage waiting for me outside.

Kindra was already in the black carriage waiting for me. "Who was that?" She asks. I hesitated for a minute. "No one." I say. "Well, we better get ready for the Grand Ball back home!!" Kindra yells.

To be continued...
