The air had gone cold as we had fully entered. I followed them to a small bench to the far left wall. I carefully looked around and no one even looked our way, or for the matter, noticed us much. But i was still tense like an anxious freak.
I carefully sat on the dirty old rusted bench, that wobbled against my weight. I could see the guys had wandered off. I began to gaze off into space and the loud sounds and crashes of the skatepark, just simply became background noise.
Brandon was approaching me at my 3 oclock, and I immediately caught myself. He snatched up a board that was only a few feet away from me, and did a small chuckle laughing to himself . And I knew It was ofcourse my board I noticed when he flipped the deck over to show the big red anarchy symbol. I gasped, wow he must think im such a loser I thought.
He plopped down next to me, and my hands immidiately got icey cold, "You must really wanna get rid of this thing," he smiled, handing me my board.
I gripped it tightly, "Ha ha actually i think it was making a run for it, i wasnt looking. It actually had a good headstart." I smiled back.
He did that little laugh again, and I laughed with him. My eyes darted in all directions, besides his eyes. That was dangerous territory. But I could feel them beaming onto me while my cheeks got hot.
In the moment I felt an annoying buzz in my left ear, i could feel a dark whispering. Maybe we were too loud?. I turned around and looked back to the handful of people staring directly at us. Brandon noticed too and he whipped around. I nervously turned back, but Brandon still stared at the creepy rubber faces moments longer. He then, clearly annoyed, slowly turned back forward.
"I wonder why everyones acting so weird, its really fucking annoying at this point," he said nonchalantly, which i could tell he meant to whisper, but came out a little louder than he expected.
I looked up casually, and noticed people slowly turning their heads in our direction. My heart began to beat rapidly I was a little scared. "Whoa." I said, just above a whisper. My hand creeped into Brandon's. And he clutched it tightly. Everyone then noticed "the two without masks" "bare faces".
The skatepark had grown quiet. Rubber, shiny and waxy faces all turned in our direction. I was panicking. My heart was like a drum. I saw in the distance two horrified boys backing away. It was Steve and Franky.
They were slowly walking against the walls heading towards the entrance trying to be unoticed. My heart beating louder by the second. I almost forgot to breathe. As i gasped loudly, the whole crowd seemed to growl. Brandon abruptly pulled me up from the squeaky bench and dragged me towards the direction of the entrance in one swift motion.
I could barely place my feet, or balance from the enforce of Brandon's strong hand. It was horrific. I could hear the shuffling of feet right behind me. The feeling of being chased. We were being chased.
***
My vision blurred and I had a blood rush from rising too fast. I tried to keep my feet moving for what it was worth.
When my vision returned we were running in the tunnel.
I could feel the thick squishing beneath my feet.
I could feel Brandon's strong grasp pulling me forward.
I could hear the boys' feet squishing and sloshing ahead of us.
I didnt hear anything behind me.
But I kept running...
It was time for us to jump up through opening. Steve and Franky stopped to look back. They were waiting for us to catch up. Their faces were puzzled.
"What? What?" Brandon said as we came to a hault, trying to catch his breath.
I was trying to catch my breath too and I moved over to the side. I was bending down with my hands on my knees. I just listened to them talk.
"Where'd they go?"-"Is this some sort of joke?"-"Is everyone okay?"
I straightened my back. "Maybe we should get out of here," I stammered.
Noone moved. They all gawked down the tunnel that now had only one blinking green flourescent light.
Franky sauntered a bit back down the tunnel, while we all stood there waiting. He stood in the middle where the one green light barely flickered.
Standing there he waited, waited for something. It didnt matter because I was growing impatient.
He finally started sloshing his way back to us. "This is too weird."he murmured, running his hands through his sweaty blonde hair.
The barely dim glow ceased, leaving us all in the pitch black.
I gasped. There were loud sloshing sounds in the distance advancing towards us getting louder and louder as we just stupidly stood there. "Lets GO!" I bursted.
I hastily climbed up the wall trying to stuff myself through the tight space. I made it up first, and I was so grateful the sky was still light.
I heard heavy breathing behind me and Brandon's curly brown head popped up immediately after. I tried to hoist him up the best I could with sweaty hands.
Then it was Steve. After we got him up we noticed, Franky still didnt come up yet.
I averted away from the dark chasm in the ground, trying to stay calm. My heart was pounding, my head was throbbing and I was a sweating pig.
"Franks!" Steve and Brandon's voice sounded. I looked back and saw them both kneeling over the hole. "FRANKY!" they yelled.
I crawled back over to the hole, and stuck my head in. I couldnt see anything. I heard harsh scruffing. "Franky?" I whispered.
-"Pull Me Up!"
I immediately reached my right hand in the pit searching for the meet of Franky's hand. I felt his hand and gripped it trying to pull back my hands were sweaty. Oh no. He was slipping from my grasp.
"I can't pull him! I cant pull him, Help Steve! Brandon!"
