A few days ago, Acornfall brought back a motherless kit he had found while trying to find any sign of herbs. The dying Boulderstar surprisingly allowed the kit to join the Clan and Ivycloud volunteered to care for him as her own. He was given the name Adderkit.
However, just this past night, Boulderstar lost his final life to his rare condition, which apparently has been taking life after life, and Hawktalon, now Hawkstar, has just returned from getting her nine lives. Now, she must choose a new deputy before moonhigh. Pineshade watches as the new and much younger leader leaps onto the highbranch.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join here beneath the high branch for a meeting!" Hawkstar yowls. The clan then gathers around the high branch, knowing exactly what this is for. Pineshade sits with Frogleap and Flamepelt yet again for this Clan meeting, also feeling nervous for this announcement since he knows there's a chance he will be chosen as the new deputy, but he is convinced Spikepelt will be chosen instead of himself.
"Sadly, we lost Boulderstar overnight due to a rare condition even Acornfall could not figure out. He lived a long, happy, and very successful life and StarClan will forever honor him as a great leader of ShadowClan. Now, as my duty as the new leader of ShadowClan, I must name a deputy before moonhigh," she meows. "After a long thought, I have decided on who should be ShadowClan's new deputy," Hawkstar tells the clan. "I say these words before StarClan, so that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may hear and approve of my choice. The new deputy of ShadowClan is Pineshade. Pineshade, you are a longtime friend of mine and a kind-hearted, loyal, and strong warrior of ShadowClan. You always know what to do in tough situations and you always stay strong in these situations, which makes me believe you would be the best fit for the role of ShadowClan's deputy. You are a cat I can trust to be a great leader of ShadowClan if something were to happen to me," Hawkstar meows. The clan cheers and congratulates Pineshade as all gazes are on him.
"Really? Me?" Pineshade asks out loud.
"Yes, you!" Flamepelt purrs with amusement. "You deserve it!"
"Yeah, you're the best cat I know!" Frogleap meows. "Besides Hawkstar herself, of course!"
"Thank you so much, Hawkstar. I really appreciate it. I will try my best to be the best deputy I can," Pineshade meows.
I hope I'm making you proud, Milktail. I love you and miss you so much. I will be the best deputy and father I can be. Pineshade thinks.
