Another Jimmy x Chris asdfghjkl I literally can't stop
Jimmy's p.o.v
"This isn't what I thought you meant when you said a night out on the town", I mumble, following close behind Chris, who lets go of every tree branch before I have time to get past it so it comes flying back into my face.
"C'mon, you like fishing, don't you"?
We have been walking through the woods bordering the lake for half an hour now, heavy backpacks weighing down on our shoulders, while attempting to find where he had last left his small, inconspicuous boat. When night fishing, he doesn't like to use a motorboat because it scares the fish, and is loud enough to draw attention from whoever may realize people are on the lake after it has officially closed. We had to hop a fence just to get on lake grounds.
"I haven't been fishing since I was twelve", I sigh, attempting to get my long pole out of the tree I had accidentally swung it into.
"It's just like riding a bike". Chris turns around to face me, grabbing the bottom of my pole, and twists and pulls it until it comes loose. His smile holds amusement, and a hint of encouragement hoping to raise my spirits. "We're gonna have fun". I can't help but return the soft gaze, allowing him to drag me around the woods for another fifteen minutes before finally finding a small clearing. In the middle of the clearing is his sturdy, little, wooden boat. He pushes it into the water and lets me step into it first before stepping in himself. We float for a couple of minutes in silence, allowing the slight current to carry us until it was too weak to do so.
"It's nice out here", my voice is barely a whisper, the moonlight dancing across the surface of the water, rippling against the side of the boat. The sky is clear except for a few scattered stars, and the air is crisp and clean, causing goosebumps to form on my skin even under my heavy jacket. Chris hums in response, putting bait on his line, before reaching out for mine. I hand it over to him, watching as he effortlessly does the same as he did for his own. I would've poked my finger on the hook at least three times before getting everything set up; at least that's what I did the last time I went fishing. He hands my pole back to me, our fingers skimming as I take it from his grasp.
"Why haven't we done this before"? Chris asks, flicking his pole so the line casts far away from us. I do the same, but my reel doesn't let it go nearly as far.
I glance at him, his eyes focused far out across the water, his back slightly slouched, and his elbows resting on top of his knees. "I guess before, we weren't crazy enough to spend hours on the frozen lake".
"It's not that cold", he replies a small grin pressed against his face, still not looking from the water. "I think I packed a blanket in one of the bags if you need it".
I don't move to get it, but I scooch further up in my seat, so I am sitting on the edge, my legs bumping against Chris's as I get closer to him. I let out a shaky breath, the air clouding in a thick fog as it leaves my lips. I let my eyes wander across Chris's face, his facial hair growing out slightly, thicker than it has been in a while, and his cheeks a rosy shade of pink from the cold. His hair is covered with his baseball cap that is turned backward, but there are still a couple of pieces that lay flat against his forehead. I lean forward, swiping the hair that is close to hanging in front of his eyes, brushing it out of his face. He doesn't acknowledge the small act, pulling his pole towards him ever so slightly in hopes to get the fishes attention. "Chris-". I stop myself from saying anything else, the initial sentence not going anywhere anyway, and instead, I press my lips tightly together. He finally reaches my gaze, what little light around us glistening across his eyes.
