Chapter One
I was assigned to watch over one city. The busy, sleepless city of New York. Where evil lurks within the sewers and around the innocent. Reports of a unknown force had been killing more people than usual. Some Angels even said they didn’t get a glimpse of what it was but that must have been something powerful.
A challenge.
Sound’s exciting.
I had already made my way down to Earth, to the humorous little earthlings. As I had arrived, I made sure not to let the humans see me by reciting a small reminder to Him, to protect my identity as I served only Him. I only did that because, I was loyal, I really didn't have to do it but it’s just a habit of mine. It was already dark in the city, lights illuminating the area. I landed in the park of Manhattan, pushing away the black locks of hair out of my face. My dark gray eyes skimmed over the park. Some humans walking in sweaters, high heels, kakis, other warm yet some not so warm clothing. I assume it was chilly to them. And it kind of was. Being on Earth made me feel a bit human again. To feel hot or cold, emotions or pain. This was simply my third time being back since I had died and became an Angel.
I noticed there was a certain Death aura in the air. It was almost toxic, it made my head feel a bit lighter. Which was quite odd. I glanced over to the sea, seeing the Statue of Liberty. Her elegant figure stood tall and strong. A smile twitched at the ends of my lips. Maybe I should disguise myself as a human, whatever or whoever has been killing might come after me. They would be up for a surprise. I tilted my head to the side, showing myself to be human. I looked down to my clothes, a simple red shirt appeared over my armor that hid it away. Tight black jeans was pulled over my slender legs with black leather boots on my feet. I knew it was chilly so I also added a jacket. I was always equipped with one outfit and money when going to Earth. All I had to do was think about the outfit and there it was on me. I looked like a regular human.
Oh, I realized me just standing in the middle of the park must have seemed as weird. I knew the layout and places of New York, so I headed towards where most of the activity was taking place.

The aura got stronger. The smell more different. Tingles it sent down my back. I wasn’t sure why but the scent was almost intoxicating. I could hear almost everything round me. Once I was getting closer, I could hear a rat crawl down into the sewer, a couple of insects flying or swarming a light nearby. But one thing caught my attention. I could hear a deep husky voice mumble four words.
“Your soul is mine.”
I quickly ran and turned the corner. A large crouched figure loomed over a shaking blonde haired boy. One simple street lamp lit the alley way.
“Stop demon! In the Lord’s name, let the boy go!”I shouted sternly. My wings unfolded from their hiding place, the black and white shining from behind me. Anything evil near could sense or even see me now. But to the boy all I would be is a human. The shadow figure slowly turned around to face me. A cloak clothed the body, the face hidden within the shadow of its hood. A scythe in one hand as the other grasped the human boy’s shirt. Two eyes were all I could see. One shined a honey golden comb colored as the other was a deep, yet bright dark blue eye. Beautiful. My breath caught in my throat.
