Life is hard. Most people know that, but life is extra hard when your apart of the minority when the majority doesn't understand you and you can't understand them. My name is Jessica and I'm completely deaf.
I was born with bilateral hearing loss and had 75% of my hearing gone but now I'm completely deaf, growing up was harder kids would talk shit behind my back thinking I couldn't hear them. I had drop out of school by year 6 and was home schooled by my oldest sister,Bethany, she tried really hard to take of me and my 3 other siblings. But after my dad past away from heart cancer my mom had to work 3 jobs to maintain the house. My dad was an amazing opera singer and even though I couldn't hear him I could feel the vibration in his voice. When he died I always promised myself when I was older I would become a cancer doctor so I maybe help prevent another innocent person be taken by cancer. Even when I was 18 I got a tattoo of a heart on my ribcage to forever remember my dad.
The only way I could ever communicate to my family at first was through either text or writing, luckily my oldest brother,Jake, took me to classes to help me and my family learn sign language. Even though my family help me be safe from the outside world when I told my mom I wanted to go to London for university, she insisted that I live in a 'special needs' apartment block so I could be 'safe'. I knew I had no other chose but to live there or my mom would refuse me to go to university, everything is here a grocery store,a few shops, school even a park. There are blocks for different 'special needs' I live in the hard of hearing block with my roommate, Ashley, who is also deaf she is really sweet and is studying to be a veterinarian. We also have a cat together named Pumpkin since we got him on Halloween.
I usually never leave the block only really for school or visiting family or doctors.I really hate it here but I have no other chose so I have to make with what I have.
