Excerpt From “Shot Through The Heart”: I caressed his face, the face that had surprised me when he had taken off his hood for the first time. I hadn’t allowed myself to feel, to feel like this, in a very long time. His eyes were closed. His breathing even, yet shallow somehow. I smiled as my eyes traced over his features, allowing myself this small luxury. I had been so focused on his face, I hadn’t noticed his hands until they touched me.

His arms embraced my waist, pulling me against him. His eyes opened, two lush green meadows of emotion. “Arrow.” The word left my lips, reverberating around us. He made a sound, a deep one, that resonated around in his throat. I closed my eyes, listening to the symphony in his voice. It was then I felt the proximity of us increase. “Stop.”, I whisper, knowing he’s only a few inches away. “Why?”, he asks. He doesn’t understand.

Doesn’t understand why this can’t happen. I open my eyes and am shocked by his beautiful face, only mere centimeters from mine. “This can’t happen.”, I say, my heart breaking with every word. His arms tighten around my waist, making fireworks explode in my stomach. “You...You don’t understand.”, I tell him. “No.”, he says, his voice startling and stern. “I think you’re the one who doesn’t understand. You don’t understand how much you need this to happen or why.”

“You don’t understand how much I need it.”, he says, speaking the truth I kept pushing away. “N..no. You--”, I start to stutter. I’m cut off by his voice. “Quiet Cara. You know how I said you don’t understand?”, he asked. I could only nod. “Let me show you how much you need this. How much you need me.”, he says. I don’t even have time to answer before his lips are on mine.
