"It's still no excuse to treat him the way you treated him back there!"
"You know EXACTLY what's gonna happen from this point on! Must I remind you of him?"
"No..No we don't talk about him any more."
The obnoxious confrontation awoke Connor from his rather pleasant sleep, frightening him. He remembered it took him at least 30 minutes to finally fall asleep, remembering the cackling of the fire and the pages Kara flipped every once and a while, making his cut off slumber irritating. His eyes shot open but it was still too painful for him to move a muscle. Most of the conversation he was able to hear was either muffled or..Anger. Why were they angry? His unanswered questions met him again, making him feel insecure.
"I understand you're upset, but what you need to understand is that he has just experienced something terrifying! He could have been tortured for hours on end!"
"I DON'T CARE! WE BOTH KNOW THINGS WILL END UP THE WAY THEY DID LAST TIME!"
"Listen..For as long as he stays you will be respectful. Don't push him to talk about his past ok? Just don't frighten him, and there won't be problems."
"Whatever. Everything always goes your way."
Maggie's angered footsteps stomped down the stairs. Connor shut his eyes tight, making sure as to not be encountered by Maggie. It must be his fault, why else would they argue? Guilt overcame his emotions again, clenching his fist in anger. He waited until he thought she was gone. A door was heard opening and slamming so loud it made him flinch.
Why does she hate me? What did I do?
Should he ask Kara in the morning or would that anger her more the more he kept barreling her with guilty questions? Maybe it's best to keep it to himself..Who would listen anyway? Those blue eyes struck his mind again.
Kara would listen?
No..No it's not true. She's doing it out of pity. Once he's back in shape, she's sure to start focusing on other things. Soon enough they'll kick him out since he takes up their space and time. Then where would he go..? He heard another pair of softer footsteps come down the stairs, a sigh escape Kara's lips. He heard footsteps come closer as he fought to squint his eyes in fear. It was silent for the next 10 seconds, giving him a very discomforting feeling. He didn't like the sound of being alone.
It made him afraid.
He then heard the sound of her sitting in the chair, flipping more pages of the book. His muscles eased and he sighed in relief, knowing she was right there with him. He hoped it wasn't obvious he was awake, but he was exhausted. He needed more sleep now. Questions later..
COME HERE YOU PIECE OF SHIT!
Connor jumped awake, startled at the voice of James. He opened his eyes to be relieved that he was still at the abandoned house. He glanced over to the window, hearing the birds chirping, seeing them soar through the sky with such grace as the sun barely peeked through the mountains. He blinked several times, waiting for his vision to focus. His brown gaze drew over the entirety of the room, seeing yet again how damaged and improper the house was. It was part of his programming after all, so to see such disorganized manner bothered him a bit. He tried to forget what his duty was. What his duty to James was.. It seemed like slavery than a simple task. Was it his fault all this happened? Well for sure he's the one that escaped. Well he would much rather be here than repeat a cycle of torture and pain forever. Kara was right, he was lucky.
