This chapter is trash but I'm gonna post it anyway because I feel like the less I care about them being perfect to my standards I'll be more productive
- last time in red kool aid! Taehyung has to run out on his sketchy so called date with Yoongi because of an emergency call from home. Youngjae was missing! -
When youngjae and JB were first born I did everything in my power to build a relationship with them. I'd read plenty of books before where half siblings didn't get along. Whether it be because they felt like they didn't belong together or because they didn't believe it was worth trying to get to know someone who wasn't even your full blood relative.
I didn't want that to be the case with us. I was actually the one to discover that youngjae was deaf.
At first it was just a hunch.
JB was a very vocal baby. He cried for anything and everything. He didn't allow anyone to touch him but his mom and refused to go to sleep if youngjae wasn't beside him. Typical of a fussy newborn.
But youngjae was always abnormally quiet. He came out without a single peep ,no matter how much the doctors pinched him. Finding this odd they did a full checkup on him but couldn't find anything wrong. He was a healthy baby boy. Just not a screamer.
It was a Saturday when my former step mom and dad went out, taking JB with them since at the time he couldn't be put down without a fuss.
I was holding youngjae in my lap and we were watching supernatural together. The start of a very long tradition. I remember being so excited because it was the start of a new season and I was expressing my excitement to youngjae, but he never once turned to look at me.
I'd talk and talk and laugh and laugh trying my hardest to get him to giggle but no matter what he'd either stare straight ahead or give me a blank side eye like he didn't understand what I was doing.
That's when I started pointing out little things to my father. Like how JB was starting to form words while youngjae barely even cooed. He was absolutely positively silent twenty four seven.
At that point I was getting a bit worried that something was really wrong with my little brother. So I did some research in the school library the next day and the first thing that came up was.
'Your child may be deaf'
That day I went home and set to work on testing this theory. Back then it didn't make much sense to me because the doctors had assessed him already and said he was fine but maybe they somehow missed it.
I took my headphones and first placed them on JBs head. Setting up a soft song to play I watched him wiggling around giggling and smiling at the sounds flooding his senses.
Then I took them and placed them on youngjaes head. To make sure he would react if he could in fact hear I put on a more heavy metal song and turned it up a bit, not enough to hurt his ears of course. He didn't react in the slightest. Just stared at me with large brown eyes wondering why this weird contraption was on his head.
We took him in for a check up the next day and low and behold youngjae was in fact deaf in both ears.
It came as a shock to the family but not to me as I'd already known. So while dad and the twins mom were fighting every night over whose fault it was I sat in bed trying to interpret what hearing might feel like to Jae. Since for the next few years he'd never know.
