Ten days later
Hand in hand, Arden and I were taking a nice walk in the park. The park was rather spacious and there were lots of trees around. I held his hand and smiled at him. So much has passed within the last few days. Arden has already marked me and it happened when I was visiting his home underwater. I glanced at my shoulder blade where the mark was. It felt nice to have. It's a shame I can't mark him back because I am a human.
Flashback to eight days ago
We were underwater, strolling around. Arden was a fish and was guiding me around his territory. I was in, of course, an air bubble. The schools of fish amazed me and I relayed this to Arden. His fins shook joyfully and he led me to a secluded area that was filled with some kind of sea plant.
Arden turned back into a human.
"Allow me to mark you," he said.
I was taken by surprise so I mumbled an incoherent response.
He took my hands and held them. I looked up at his eyes shyly and simply nodded.
At my consent, he pulled my sleeve so my shoulder was showing. I was confused, since I thought mates marked each other on the neck.
I went to fix it but his top teeth elongated into fangs. Did fish have fangs? I was transfixed by this until I felt something pricking my shoulder. It was his teeth.
It hurt and I gasped in pain. I saw streams of blood leave the air bubble and go into the water. When Arden was done, he released me and stared at the blood.
"There's blood on your lips," I told him, but he didn't seem to care. I felt relieved that I wasn't hurt but then realized it wasn't my emotions. It was Arden's.
How interesting that we can feel each other's emotions."Are you ok?" He asked me, while I gingerly touched my shoulder.
"I'll be fine," I lied. It hurt and i guessed the pain will continue for a few days. My prediction was wrong however because the next day, my shoulder was normal.
Back to the present time
After an hour of strolling around, we stopped by a tree. I leaned against it and smiled when he pulled me in for a kiss. However, before the kiss, I felt a vicious punch. Everything was happening in slow motion. I felt betrayed since I felt sparks but I saw Arden's arms were still on the tree.
Then what happened? That thought barely crossed my mind when I flew into a random tree and fell on the floor.
I gasped and held my cheek. Arden ran over to me and touched my bruise. I winced and stared at him with tears in my eyes. "I felt sparks," I told him breathlessly. He gasped. "I would NEVER hurt you!"
"I know," I whispered. I tried to get up but Arden held me down protectively.
Twigs snapped. Feeling the suspense, Arden did a protective stance over me. We waited.
A person came out. I instantly disliked him. I could tell he was the one who punched me. I wanted to glare at him but my whole face hurt. The guy had light blonde hair. The edges were dyed with the various colors of the rainbow. I took note of the malicious grin on his face. His expression made my blood run cold. He glared at me sinisterly.
"What's going on?" Mystery boy said to Arden. "That girl is my prey. Why are you standing over her?"
"I am Arden, her mate. How DARE you hit her!"
I shivered when I heard his angry voice but I continued to listen.
"I am her mate! When I smelled her scent I knew she was mine and it was confirmed when I hit her. I felt the SPARKS."
