-Adrienette-

Marinette was scowling as she exited the school. She knew that she was scaring people as she passed, especially the lower classmen. But she was so frustrated and couldn't keep it in. She had been going through this for years, yet nothing had changed. Adrien still saw her as his cute, little friend and in all these years she had never been able to confess to him. She had been trying her best to flirt and give him subtle hints, but his behavior never changed.

She knew that part of the impasse was due to her not being completely open with him, but she was being pretty obvious in her flirting and he just never understood her advances. Marinette originally wasn't sure if she was reading Adrien right, but she had consulted with Alya long ago and had confirmed that Adrien was completely oblivious to her attempts.

Honestly, by this point the whole class was aware of Marinette's attempts and of Adrien's denseness. They all tried to help Marinette out when they saw her trying to approach Adrien. Even Chloe helped. She had come to realize that Adrien would never be hers and that Marinette and Adrien were a good match – if only Adrien would realize his feelings for Marinette and connect her actions to her liking him. She worked the situation from the opposite end because of her friendship with Adrien. She had tried to talk to him several times and she could see that he didn't even understand his own feelings. He would say things that most people would quickly follow with "I love her," things that should be obvious traits of being in love, but Adrien still concluded his explanations to Chloe with the oft-repeated phrase "she's a good friend." The whole class over the years still had not mastered the ability to hide their eye-rolls and face-palms in response to Adrien's proclaiming Marinette a friend.

Even though she'd made it through all these years able to persevere and determine to try again the next day, this time she felt that she was going to snap. How could he misunderstand? Today she had approached him confidently, knowing she looked good in her new outfit. She reached out to him, gently squeezing his bicep, and asked him what he would be doing that night while slowly tucking her hair behind her ear and looking at him through her lashes. But he simply looked up at her with a wide, cheesy grin and responded that he was probably going to spend his night playing video games or practicing piano, if he was feeling productive. He laughed at his little joke then looked back down to what he was working on.

Marinette had taken a slow deep breath to calm herself down as she escaped. But that moment stayed on her mind and as they neared the end of the school day her frustration had built until it was near bursting.

She began heading home, but after walking only a fraction of the distance there she turned around. She had realized that she didn't want her parents to see her in this state. She didn't want them to ask questions and she especially didn't want to answer any questions. She decided that she would go back to the school and spend some time in the art classroom to relieve some stress.

She rushed to the room in order to avoid any contact with her peers and their questioning, or pitying, gazes. She made it to the room and then collapsed into a seat. A few quiet sobs escaped her before she swallowed them back and squared her shoulders. She wasn't going to think about Adrien.

She pulled out sketching supplies and placed them firmly on the design table in front of her. She would focus on creating new designs. She would make the best designs she ever had, and it would be a testament to everyone that she was over Adrien.

Marinette tried, she really did, but by the time an hour had passed she knew she had failed. She had spent the whole time trying to get her mind back on her sketches after it strayed repeatedly to Adrien and the future that she feared they would never have together.
