We're here, Abigail texts me at 7:04 a.m.
I throw my phone into my backpack and rush downstairs, before she thinks of entering the place where all the lies can be discovered. I can't let her -or anyone else- hear my parents yelling about my mom's latest affair.
"Bye mom and dad," I shout, hoping they hear me over their obnoxious screaming.
No answer. Then don't, I think and put on my brightest smile. Here we go.
"Faith!" someone in Abigail's van screams, "What's up, sis?"
I smile somewhere and get in the car. "I'm good and you?"
"Bet your weekend was lit. Went to some sick college party of that step brother of yours?"
Sweating slightly, I shift in my seat, trying to remember what I told them last week. "No, I stayed at home, actually"
Abigail pouts at me. "That can't be true"
None of this bullshit is, I think. "A little self-care, you know? Nails, hair, face, you know how school makes us stressed and a little ugly" I force a girlish giggle.
Sarah nods. "Yeah, makes sense"
I think back to my week end. I basically avoided every human contact and read two books. But they don't have to know.
"Have you heard of Hannah's exchange partner from France?"
"Is he hot?"
I surpress a groan. Is that all these teenage straight girls can think of? If a guy is hot or not?
"Actually, she's a girl"
There's a collective disappointed groan from the backseat. "Why, God?"
"Her name is Ann, without e, which is super fancy"
I grin and wonder, why Hannah and Ann without e aren't in this car. Usually, we all go together. "So, Ann without e is too fancy to come with us?"
"They have paperwork, she's coming with her own car"
"Guys, I have a confession to make," Christine giggles. These conversation transitions are just so smooth, I could cry.
Abigail raises an eyebrow. "I'm listening"
"You know that Josh in our Math class?"
Sarah groans. "You didn't. Christine, do not tell me that you fucked Josh from Maths. You're disgusting"
Christina bites her bright red lip. "Well, I kind of did"
"Finally," Abigail sighs, "Finally someone gets you laid, even if he is obnoxious. How was it? Did you come?"
"It hurt, but then I came"
"Who would have thought Josh is good," Abigail laughs, "The surprises in life... Wonderful"
Sarah shrugs. "Not me. Now we aren't the virginity club of Hudson High anymore, now we've all..."
"...done the deed" Christine giggles girlishly.
God, they are really immature.
Says the virgin.
I bite my lip and look out of the window, knowing I'm the only virgin in this car.
I can kiss a guy, yes. I can fake a relationship with a guy. But I can't fuck a guy and I won't lie about that one.
"Everyone except Faith"
