Grant Ward had a difficult childhood with an abusive family, his brother often made him beat his younger brother, his parents ... were worse. Grant was hand-cast as one of Phil Coulson's fledgling team members, had a perfect track record and a professional spy's antipathy, was one of the best field fighters a team could have, and of course was 100% loyal to SHIELD ... Hydra, isn't? "Manipulator, evil boy, traitor, red hot hydra peppers". Following the fall of SHIELD, Grant Ward turned out to be an undercover agent who worked for Hydra, or for John Garrett, the man who raised him as a son — or a lethal and ruthless killer — who devoted his full loyalty. With his face exposed, Ward was arrested but eventually escaped from prison. Taking on Hydra's forefront after the death of John Garrett and so many others that sprang up — I even lost count — Grant set up his base, deciding to rebuild Hydra and its ideals.
