“Are you going to tell him everything?”
“What? Tell what that my best friend is the great-grant daughter of Van Helsing and that I have been giving you information on what he's doing so you won’t kill him?”
“No not that.”
“Oh you mean that the love of his life is engaged to another?”
“Yes that and the fact that you are madly in love with him,” Lailia remarked adding, “Plus the simple fact is that you're giving me info so that I know he isn’t overstepping those bounds. I know you keep him centered.”
“You can’t just tell Dracula that you're in love with him! What do you mean centered?”
“My family has watched over him for countless years. We have seen everything he has ever done. Not once since he had found you in those woods long time ago, has he turned or drunk from a human. You need to go and talk to him.”
“I can’t.”
“You can and you will Anna.”
Few hours laterThe rest of the day had almost passed by so suddenly with Anna regretting every second the hand of the clock moved forward. The butterflies inside her had far from settled. How could she tell Dracula all the things she had been holding inside for so many years? She was only 15 when he found her covered in blood deep in the woods. She had no memory of what had happened but she knew that blood wasn’t hers. She knew deep down that it was her family’s blood but had no memory of how it got all over her. Now after 6 years, Anna was going to admit to herself and her savoir everything she had been holding inside. As Anna took a deep breath, she heard his gentle step coming toward her. She shot up seeing Dracula heading her way, only to pass her for the front door.
“Dracula, I need to talk to you.”
“Not now Anna,” Dracula stated in almost a cold manner.
“Vlad! I need to talk you now,” Anna demanded.
Dracula groaned slamming the door closed as he turned to Anna declaring, “I have somewhere to be. I cannot be late.”
“You going to see her aren’t you? You going to see Mina.”
Dracula's silence spoke enough to her.
“Don’t you get it? She’ll never love you. It’s not her. Mina may look like Mirena but it’s not. She is gone for good. Mina’s heart belongs to another. She is engaged. Please don’t go after her. If you do, someone will get hurt or worse then Lailia will come after you for it.”
“Oh yes, I almost forgot you are a Helsing informant,” Dracula uttered in disgust.
“I am doing it for you. To keep you safe.”
“I don’t need you! I never need you. You were some poor lost girl I found. What use were you really to me? I am Dracula. I am son of the devil. I have been fine on my own for quite a while my dear, what make you think I ever need you?”
“Please don’t say that,” Anna begged.
“Well it's all true, my dear.”
At that very moment, Anna broke down. The tears she was trying to fight found their way out. She darted past Dracula shoving him out of her way as she ran out the door. Anna didn’t stop. There was no reason to stop. No one was calling her name. No one was begging her to come back. She ran as fast as her feet could carry her. She kept going until she lost her foot falling face first into the ground with a thud. Anna didn’t move from the ground; all she did was pull herself into a tight little ball crying softly. She wanted Dracula to know how she felt about him but it went too far. He went too far.
“Oh my dear.”
Anna looked up to see this older gentlemen in his fifties dressed so elegant from head to toe. He stuck his hand out there for Anna to reach. She reached out cautiously taking his hand as he helped her to her feet.
“I wouldn’t have figured he would treat you so horrible.”
“Your...you’re the vampire. You’re the one who turned Vlad.”
“Aren’t you a smart one? You know I would have figured he would have turned you by now or turned you that day he found you right here in this very spot.”
“How do you know about that?” Anna questioned.
“My dear, how do you think you wound up here in the first place?”
“You killed my family!” Anna stuttered.
“Yes. I thought you would make him better. Bring out that darkness in him but all you've done is made him more human. So now after I finish you, I have another young lady waiting for me.” The old vampire smirked adding, “Oh wait, let's make that two young ladies; Mina and Lailia.”
“I won’t let you!” Anna screamed.
“How are you going to stop me?” He laughed grabbing Anna so quickly; she had no time to fight as he sunk his fangs deep into her neck. Part of Anna knew that this was the end but something in her told her to fight. To do something. Anything at all! So Anna did the only thing she could think of.
“Dracula!” Anna screamed at the top of her lungs before everything went dark…
“Nooo. Nooo. This can’t be... Anna wake up. Please Anna? I am sorry. I am sorry for everything I said. I need you. Every word was a mistake. Please Anna don’t leave me.” Dracula cried out lifting Anna's lifeless body against his own. He did the only thing he knew he could possibly do. Dracula sat there against the tree holding Anna in his arms so tightly. There was nothing. No sign of life at all. It was too late.
Anna’s eyes shot open looking around to see she was no longer in the forest but in Dracula's bed. Not only in Dracula's bed but in his arms as well. His arms were tightly wrapped around her. Dracula’s head was rested against the dark cherry wood of his headboard while Anna lay against him as he lay atop his black satin sheets. As Anna looked more closely at him, she could tell he had been crying. She could see the little glimmer of it left on his cheek. She could smell the bitterness of it in the air. What caught her attention the most was his heart. For the longest time, Anna thought he didn’t have a heartbeat but there in his chest it was beating. It was still pumping blood through his body. The thumping was so calming to her that she wished to stay like this forever but she couldn’t.
“Dracula.”
He stirred in his sleep slowly opening his eyes to see Anna before him. At first, he thought maybe it was just his imagination but it was really her.
“Anna!”
“Please let me go. I must go. I don’t belong here,” Anna muttered pulling away from Dracula.
“No!” Dracula roared pulling Anna back. They grappled with each other fighting over who was going to win the battle. In one swift move, Dracula had Anna pinned to the bed.
“Get off me!”
“Not 'til you listen!”
“Fine.”
“I made a mistake. I can’t lose you Anna. You are the world to me. I need you. I thought Mina was the one but I was wrong. You’re the one.” Dracula confessed moving off of Anna.
“I love you.”
“And I love you,” Dracula remarked kissing Anna until he pulled back adding, “I can’t let you throw away your life. I can’t let you lose everything you have. I won’t let you drink from a human only to become like me; a monster.”
“Dracula, the only thing I have in my life that means anything to me is you. You are my everything. You can’t go living forever all alone. I want to be there with you every step from now until the end of time itself.”
“What about Lailia?”
“I can explain everything to her. She will understand. She isn’t like her father or grandfather. She is willing to give you a chance for me. Now no more talking. We can talk about this more tomorrow. Right now all I want to do is fall asleep listening to your heart beat.
