I woke up to the sound of a constant beeping. the room was a light blue, and very plain. I lifted my arm, but was restricted; I looked down to see a tube connecting into my arm, with a liquid in it. suddenly, a man with a coat came it. "good evening Ms. Nelson," he said. 'where am I?' I thought. "I'm Dr. Jensen. you were in a car accident on Saturday, and if it wasn't obvious, you're in the hospital." that explained almost nothing; there were still millions of questions running through my head. "um, what day is it?" I managed to ask. "oh it's only Sunday," he replied. his face held an anticipation look, as if he were waiting for me to ask more questions, so I did. "where's my family?" "you're mother is fine, she's already been released. her, along with your father and brothers are in the waiting room," he said. I nodded, not knowing what to ask next. "would you like me to go get them?" he asked. I nodded again, and he walked out.
I waited patiently, while examining the room. I had a bandage around my head, which made me look hideous, I'm assuming. I also had the tube which led into my left arm, along with a tube on the other arm, but this one was less restrictive. I heard a faint knock on my open door. "come in," I said softly. I turned my head and saw my mom and dad walk in. dad had a sympathetic look on his face. unlike mom, who was very worried, yet relieved. mom sat down in the chair besides me, "hey honey, how are you feeling?" i shurgged, "okay, I suppose. how are you?" "I'm fine, don't worry about me. how's your head?" she asked. "it hurts, a lot. when can I get this thing off my head?" I asked, pointing to the bandage. she laughed, "soon baby."we talked for awhile, but I don't remember much of our conversation. I soon asked to see Sean and Jared, which mom quickly accepted. I really wanted to talk to Sean, only because we were closer than Jared and I. but, I had to ask for them both. as I expected, Sean walked in first. he immediately rushed to me and gave me a hug. he squeezed, which really hurt, but I tried to ignore the pain. Jared also gave me a hug before we started talking. it wasn't much, atleast I don't think. I was zoning out most of the time they were talking, which I felt bad for.
Riley and Morgan came in next, and that's when I really started talking.
"hey," I said.
"hey babe, how you feeling?" Riley asked.
I shurgged once more, "okay. my head hurts."
"I bet," Morgan said.
"when can we take you out of here?" Riley asked
I laughed, "not sure yet, but hopefully soon. this bandage is NOT flattering."
they both laughed, "glad to know you're still the same ole Bailey."
I smiled before asking, "where's Chase?"
they both frowned. "um in New York?" Morgan said, in a questioning tone.
"why? is he on vacation?" I asked.
their faces immediately went from confused to worried. "he moved there..." Riley said, trailing off. "you knew that," she added.
my eyes popped open, "what? what do you mean he moved?"
Riley whispered to Morgan, and Morgan left. Riley placed her hand next to me, "his dad got a job transfer. he moved three days ago, remember? you went over to his house with your brothers before he left."
I opened my mouth but Morgan came back in, with the doctor following her. he spoke before I had the chance to ask questions. "Ms. Nelson, you seem to be suffering from mild amnesia. since you just woke up, we're not sure how much you forgot. can you tell us the last thing you remember?" he asked, i furrowed my eyebrows, thinking. "um...well the last thing I remember was last night. we," I said, looking at Morgan and Riley, "went to Six Flags." Morgan hung her head low, as did Riley. the doctor looked at them both, and Riley spoke up. "that was this summer, before school started," she said, mainly speaking to the doctor. he nodded, and left without saying another word. I looked around, but neither made eye contact with me. it was as if I did something wrong, like they were ashamed. this time, Morgan whispered to Riley and she walked out. "what's wrong now?" I asked. "nothing," Riley said. I knew that something was wrong. "I think I can handle it," I assured. she sighed, "there's just a lot you don't know, but it's not important right now." Morgan walked in and told us, "the doctor said not to rush her into remembering anything, as well as trying to reload her brain with current events. he said it'd be best to just see how it goes; to do that we need to just treat her like we normally would." Riley nodded, and that's when my family came in. mom handed me some clothes and told me to change. I walked into the bathroom after she helped me disconnect the tubes. I pulled off my hospital gown and put on leggings, a red sweater, and white shoes. after I finished tying my shoe lace, I walked out, and everything was clean: the bed was made, the nightstand had nothing on it. it was as if I never even stayed in the room. Sean was the only one waiting when I walked out, and he led me to the checkout, but without saying a word.dad drove rather slowly, but I didn't mind. i kept my head a good distance from the window, unlike I usually do. it hurt too much to keep it against, so I just propped my head up and stared outside while listening to music. the car ride was strangely quiet, and not just because I had music turned on. mom and dad weren't talking about anything, neither were the boys: no arguing, no competition, nothing. I didn't bother speaking, mainly because everything felt...different. I'm not sure if it was because of the accident, or something else. but it was surely different, and weird.
we got home and I walked straight up to me room. it was the same ole light blue, with my comfy bed and desk that my laptop was sitting on. I sat down on my bed, when Sean came in. "mom wanted me to give you this," he said, handing me my phone. I smiled, "thanks Sean." he nodded, "no problem. if you need anything, I mean anything, I'll always be here for you sis," he said, smiling shyly. "thank you. I'll remember that," I said. he smiled once more and walked out. I turned on my phone and immediately saw all the messages I had. 8 from Chase, 2 from Riley, 3 from Morgan. I assumed the texts from the girls were old, so I went straight to Chase's. it was at first 'hey' and 'how are you.' then it turned into questions: 'are you okay?' 'Bailey, are you okay?' 'how you doing?' and 'remember me?' that one made me laugh and I texted him back. "I'm doing okay, and of course I still remember you. I only lost a few moths of memory." he texted back a few minutes later, "just messing with you. glad you're still the Bailey I love." I smiled, "love you too. soo, you really moved?" "yup. hate to say it, but it's true," he replied. I sighed, "awe, I just found out you're gone but I miss you." "I miss you too, and it's been longer for me." I laughed, even though he couldn't hear me. "by one day, ONE" I said. "still. we're planning on coming out in the summer. just getting settled and everything." "good," was all I replied. "now get some rest, we'll talk later," he said. I simply said "okay, bye." and I went to bed.
