The sky finely painted by the color of a soft blue glow, the lacy waves of the ocean gently clashing with the rocks on the shore with the cool water lapping at your feet. Your knee length dress was graceful in dancing along with the morning breeze with your hair fluttering on the back of your head. Your eyes were shut yet your lips curved into a smile almost as soft and blinding as the morning sun.

So soft, so endearing, so calming.

Everything he wasn't.

"I'm right here."

The smoothness of your palm caressing his tear stricken cheek startled Tomura out his abysmal nightmare.

Sheets twisted around his limbs, his body bathing in cold sweat, wide and frantic eyes bloodshot as tears as salty as the ocean continuously trickled down his flushed cheeks. Even in consciousness and the sweet euphony of your heart drumming against his ears, the remnants of his nightmare still clung to his mind like a leech, and he only wanted to do nothing but run away from his own intrusive thoughts.

The man with the lump in his throat and a dam of tears staining your shirt isn't the fearsome leader of the infamous League of Villains. He isn't the man who swears death on his enemies and who could easily petrify the strongest of men just with his mere fingers around their throat.

But Tenko Shimura, who is just a broken boy falling into a spiral of constant fear and hatred and any kind of deprecating emotion he felt with himself.

The boy with a tear in his heart and a monster gnawing his mind.

"Shh, I got you now."

Just as his hand made contact with your neck, an uproar brewed on the horizon as rain pattered down Earth and rumbling thunder cracked the sky in half. The howling of the wind served as a mournful cry as the waves only grew back harsher and harsher as they embraced the sand and surrounded your feet, their roar echoing across the ocean and along the storm. It seemed like the storm creating havoc on Tomura's heart found a way to reveal itself to the world.

Four of his fingers traced your neck as his pinky finger left stood out. Just with that single finger pressing down — just a single movement, your whole existence would crumble down the face of the Earth.

His mind seemed to blank out. It felt like someone else was controlling his actions and he was forced to do nothing but watch as you slowly fluttered your eyes open.

Why were you still smiling?

"Look at me, breathe."

With no words spoken and only the blood running in his ears and his heart in his throat, he had finally pressed his fifth finger on your neck.

Even when death came, you are still the most beautiful person he has ever seen.

That blinding yet haunting smile remains as the ocean waves swept any fragment of you.

You were the only person who loved him, how dare he kill you?

Minutes dragged by with only his heaving breaths and occasional sniffles occupying the room, when finally he uttered,

"I'm scared."

"Of what?" Your voice came as a whisper as your fingers traced soothing circles on his back. You closed your eyes, rocking him slowly as if you two were cradled on a hammock. Your heart beating, alive — a reminder that it was just another bad dream and you really are here holding him in your arms.

It's all real.

Tenko didn't know what peace was supposed to feel, but he thinks it feels a lot like you.

Yet his clutched fists trembled against your chest as a vivid picture of your faint smile as the cracks on your throat spiralled up your face flashed in his mind. "Of me."

"Of me hurting you."

And right then and there, that heart of yours felt like tearing itself in two.

You sat there in silence, letting him pour his pure raw emotions to you. It is only you he can truly show vulnerability without the fear of judgement, only you who can untangle the knots in his heart; the only one he can give his full trust. And you made it your duty to protect it.

"You're the only good thing that happened in my life, [Y/N]." He forced out a bitter chuckle, gritting his teeth. "The best thing."

He removed his head off your chest, quickly turning his head to the side in a hopeless way to hide his face. "How could you love somebody like me, huh? You can't be with me. What if I ruin something again?"

You hummed, making him jolt in surprise as you unclutched his gripped hands. Before you could intertwine your hand with his, he was quick to move as he lifted his pinky finger.

It's not that he can't love, it's that he's afraid.

"There could be a million things that you think is wrong with you, but I'd still fall in love with you." You leaned your chin on the top of his head as you spoke softly, "I won't leave. If you're staying, I'm staying."

"Why do you love me, [Y/N]?" The pain in his voice was all you could hear, and with every word he had whispered, your heart had truly felt like bursting out your chest.

But you didn't hesitate to give him an answer.

"I'm the happiest I've ever been because of you, and I think that says enough about you, right?"

Your fingers now gently laced with his as your thumb softly caressed the top of his hand. Just with the mere comfort of your presence and your body unafraid of melting with his, Tenko Shimura felt the monster in his mind fade into a tranquil sleep.

His hands are scarred from murder, yet you trust them completely.
