Jason and I were riding in the back with Vic. I was in the middle of them. My best friend and my idol by my side. This was the best moment of my life. We were finally free.
The car came to an abrupt stop.
"We're here."
We all got out the car, got our bags, and stood.
Then, the van left.
We were out in the middle of nowhere. Like, literally.
We couldn't see anything but miles of forest ahead of us. It was dark. The air was humid. I suddenly felt unsafe. I was about to run away, but the only lights fairly recognizable were the van's headlights off in the far distance. I guess I was so excited to get to where I was going to realize I didn't actually know where I was going.
I felt a small, yet strong hand hold mine. I honestly couldn't tell whether it was Jason or Vic, but I followed where it lead me.
We'd been walking for what felt like centuries until we reached a single door. It was just one door. I felt like I was in a scene straight out of Monsters Inc.
The door was a bright orange, at least, that's what I thought I saw, and it had the strangest little keyhole. It wasn't even a keyHOLE it was more of a keyHOLDER. There was a piece cut out of the door that resembled the shape of a skull-shaped key. Vic went into his pocket and pulled out a skinny, shiny piece of metal and placed it in the keyHOLDER. The sides of the door started to glow a bright, orange light.
At this point I'm so freaked out, I'm not even sure what to say at all this. Like, it was cool but scary, because after all of these magic tricks, I still didn't know where the door would lead to.
"Are you guys ready?" Vic was holding the doorknob in excitement.
"Um, y-yeah, t-t-totally." Jason spat out after swallowing all the baby vomit.
Vic opened the door and the light was finally revealed to us. There was a bright shiny day on the other side of this... portal.
He stepped through and his face lit up.
"Welcome to Camp Arpeggio."
