"Hey sleepyhead," Kian approached my locker and made fun of me. "How was your nap?" He smiled one of his world-famous cheeky grins.

"Quite refreshing. And how was your meeting with the principal, doofus?"

He reached for a strand of my hair to play with but I slapped his hand away. I knew he would end up tangling it into a knot. He always played with my hair when he was upset or stressed, and that always resulted in me needing some detangler.

"Mr. Harting says if I get sent to his office one more time, I'm getting Saturday detentions for the rest of the year."

"You dumby! It's like the third week of school! You better not get in any more trouble or else I won't have anyone to hang out with on Saturdays besides London, Delaney, and whoever Delaney's boyfriend happens to be that week!"

Kian ran his hands through his yellow-blonde hair, and blinked his green eyes adorably. "I was just looking out for you, Col. Better me getting in trouble than you."

"Thanks boobear but from now on I'll have to take my own heat. You are not getting all those detentions." I stood on my tiptoes so I could wrap my arms around Kian and give him a huge hug. "Now. Before we go home can we go get ice cream?"

Kian had always been my ride to and from school. Even since we were little kids, being next-door-neighbors, his mom always brought us both ways--my mother never could because she always had to focus on doing things for my five other siblings. Even though Kian got his license and I got my permit this year (We're both in 9th grade, but Kian's a year older because he got held back in grade 1), we continued on the tradition of him taking me to and from school. It was partly because my parents couldn't afford to buy me a car, but mostly because things would have been weird not going everywhere with Kian.

"Sure but it's your turn to pay little girl!"

I scoffed at him. "Fine you gold-digger." It was ironic for me to call him a gold-digger because I was probably the person in the school with the least amount of money. "But don't pile on the gummy bears, that's why your ice cream always costs so much."

"Well you're the one who packs on the sprinkles like it's your job! Why do you even like them so much? They have no taste!"

"It's a rainbow and it brings me happiness okay! Now let's go already! I'm starving!"
