Ellie takes it easy for the next several days. One day when she's in the bathroom, Katherine's spirit appears. "Katherine?" Ellie whispers.
"Hello, Ellie." Katherine says.
"Katherine, I'm sorry! I shouldn't have dared you to..."
"Ellie, it's not your fault. I don't blame you. Besides, you did kind of avenge me."
"I guess so. I still feel horrible though."
"Don't. I don't want you to lose yourself because of my death."
Ellie sighs. "Okay. I promise. I'll get back to my normal self. For you."
"No, not for me. For yourself, and your children."
"Yeah." Ellie wipes the tears away that start to form in her eyes.
"Don't cry. This probably won't be the last time you see me. I'll be around." Katherine fades away.
Ellie starts to find herself again after this experience. She starts to care for Gray and Violet like she'd before Katherine's death. She starts to eat and sleep.
Thomas notices the change. One day he asks what made her change.
"Katherine." Ellie answers, "Her spirit appeared to me. Told me her death wasn't my fault and she didn't want me to lose myself because of it."
"That's great!"
"Yeah."
She makes up for her mistakes by giving Matt a silver watch. He opens it and smiles at her.
"Thank you," Matt says, "I love you." He gently kisses her on her cheek.
"I love you too," Ellie says softly, "I know it's not much, but it's all I could find."
"It's okay. You did your best."
Two days later, Thomas receives a call from Kara. "Kara? What's wrong? A murder? By who? Fingerprints, at the scene? Ellie and I? Okay, we'll be there soon. "Ellie! Come on! Kara needs us!"
