will was sitting on the curb, waiting for jonathan to pick him up from school

a day had never gone by slower.

will had eaten alone in the library, plus been teased for being a "girly boy" or "queer"  in every class and in the hallways

he was already sick of it and just needed to go home, but of course jonathan was late.

so will was stuck outside in the chilly september weather, drawing. he was drawing mike, he had started subconsciously but once he started he couldn't stop.

god did he ever miss him, everything about him.

who wouldn't miss their bestfriend?

but mike had been more than just a bestfriend to will.

the problem was that will was only a bestfriend to mike.

maybe the distance would be good for will, a good way to move on and get over the raven haired boy

"i didn't get your name" a familiar voice said from behind will.

will spun around, his eyes widening as he watched matteo walk over and sit down beside him.

"your friends don't want you talking to me" will stated without thinking  and immediately regretted it

matteo smiled at wills embarrassed expression, "my friends don't get to choose who i talk to, kid. now can i get your name?"

"will byers" will said quietly, his cheeks reddening quickly under matteo's gaze

"will byers huh? that's a cute name" matteo commented nonchalantly

"thanks" the byers boy whispered, his cheeks turning an even darker shade of red

he didn't understand why this popular, highly attractive boy was talking to him.

the only logical reason was that matteo was messing with him.

"so byers, what were you drawing" the boy asked, leaning closer to will and glancing at the paper in wills lap

"uh... my friend"

"your friend? what's his name" matteo asked, emphasizing the word friend for a reason will couldn't figure out.

"his names mike, he's my bestfriend" the small boy said softly

"huh, i didn't see him today"

"no he's from hawkins, where i'm from"

"oh my god you're the new kid" matteo said in a very excited tone

"yeah i am"

"well then new kid, since you don't know anyone, wanna hang with me at school?"

"i don't know... your friends wouldn't like that"

matteo sighed, his face turning into an expression of annoyance. "then i'll hang with you separate from my friends"

"really" will asked, insecurity seeing through his voice

matteo's expression softened immediately, "really" he repeated.

he leaned over and gently brushed a piece of hair out of wills face. "i like your eyes byers" matteo said, staring at will, his gaze sweeping from wills eyes down to his lips, back to his eyes again.

"t-thanks" will stammered, finding it hard to form a proper sentence with matteo's hand still in his hair

before the boys could say anything else, jonathan pulled into the parking lot

will jumped up immediately, "i'll see you later"

he began walking to the car but paused suddenly and turned around, "do you need a ride home?" he asked

matteo shook his head, "nah don't worry about it, my parents will come sometime"

will frowned, "aren't you cold?"

"nah i'm okay, my parents forget to pick me up a lot, im used to it"

"but" will began and was quickly interrupted

"don't worry your pretty little head about it byers, im okay. say hi to your brother for me"

will smiled at him and got in the car. by the time he turned around to say goodbye, matteo was gone
