'okay see you later!' my mum waved me off as i was on my way to the dodie concert, I had a big sign saying 'we love you thank you for your music and everything' and my friend was with me too.
We got to the venue pretty early practically no one was there and we were two of the first few people in line. My friend Rebecca turned to me, 'Sav do you think dodie will notice us in the crowd?' I wasn't quite sure but our sign was big and bright and noticeable so hopefully we'll get a glance or a smile, 'I hope so,' I smiled at her and she smiled back.
Soon enough it was time to go in for the concert and I felt a wave of nervousness pass through my stomach, it was one of the first concerts I've ever been too. Rebecca grabbed my hand in excitement and squealed like a child. 'I'm so excited!! We're going to see dodie! DODIE!'
I nodded, giggling, 'yes Rebecca we are!'Inside the venue it was hot and crammed but I didn't mind soon enough dodie would be on the stage in front of us singing, we managed to get right at front so we had a possibility of dodie noticing us. dodie has noticed me before from my singing on instagram but nothing more I'd doubt she'd recognize me in a crowd full of people.
After what felt like years and after all the chanting for dodie she skips up onto the stage and throws her hands up, the whole crowd was cheering and I stood there in disbelief. dodie was right in front of me, we were in the same room.
She sat down by the mic with a keyboard underneath her, 'hello London!' Once again the crowd cheered and waved, so did I. dodie chatted for a little bit explaining the song she was going to sing, 'and this song is called 6/10' everyone knew it, it had been out for a while.
While she was singing I couldn't help but cry. The person in front of me saved me, without her and her music I have no idea where I would be now or if I'd even be here. The song finished and she looked down onto the crowd, and then looked at me right in the eyes and smiled, 'it's alright,' she said gently into the microphone. Our eyes locked and it felt as if everything stopped, as if no one else was in the room just her and I. After what felt like forever she spoke back into the microphone again looking at me, 'you in the front with the stripy overalls,' she was talking to me, dodie was talking to me. infront of the whole crowd, 'didn't you do that cover of sols on Instagram?' I nodded excitedly, shaking, 'why don't you play it with me now?' The crowd cheered and I covered my mouth with my hands nodding, shocked.
She asked one of the security guys to lift me over the barrier and get me up onto the stage.
The first thing she did was hug me. It was so pure and special, there were so many people in crowd looking at me and smiling. Dodie sat down by the keyboard and gestured me to join her, so I did.
Someone from the crew handed me a guitar and said 'Good luck,' while dodie started talking to the audience, 'This song is about how it's hard to stay friends with someone after a relationship. this one is called sick of losing soulmates,' She turned, smiled at me and nodded for me to start. I started strumming on the guitar; the crowd calm and quiet.
'What a strange being you are,' dodie sung the first verse angelically and then I joined in on the pre-chorus. I saw Rebecca look up to us in awe mouthing the words silently, once she saw me looking at her she said 'she noticed you!!' rather quietly and I could just make out what she was saying by reading her lips.
'Cause I'm sick of losing soulmates,' the crowd joined in and it was beautiful, 'So where do we begin,' dodie looked at me, her eyes sparkling. It was crazy, I was up on stage with my idol. Singing.
After the song ended everyone clapped and cheered, I bowed at the same time dodie started giggling. I smiled at her and gave her a hug, two of the crew members escorting me back stage, 'thank you!' I heard her shout while I was walking out. They lead me out back into the crowd and I stood back with Rebecca.
'SAV! that was incredible you should've saw people's faces!'
I smiled at her, 'No becs you should have saw their faces from up there!'We watched the rest of the show making the most of it, when it eventually ended and people were slowly lead out. Two of the same crew members who I met before told Rebecca and I to follow them back stage, did dodie want to see us?
We were sent to a messy room where we saw Pete, Orla and Ross. 'Hey you're singing is amazing!' Orla said, Ross and Pete only just noticing us turning around. 'Yeah you were incredible,' They agreed.
Rebecca stood there with her jaw dropped she couldn't believe it, I got my phone out and snapped a photo of her and she nudged me in the hip, 'Oi!' I laughed, the others did too.
'You guys are so cool too! It's absolutely crazy to met you!' We chatted for a minute and took a selfie when dodie walked into the room. Rebecca gasped and I stood, the nervousness creeping back into my stomach. 'Dodie,' Rebecca whispered. Dodie saw she was in shock and said, 'Yes that's me!' They hugged and then dodie turned towards me.
'Hey,' She smiled,
'Hey,' I smiled back blushing, 'Thank you for letting me play with you, it means the world.' She put down her phone and her water bottle still smiling, 'No problem, you're an incredible singer!' We hugged again and it felt amazing. She asked for a photo too so we sort of took one to many.It soon got a bit dark and I'm sure by mum would be wondering where we were so I let her know we had to head off.
'Hey dodie? Could I have an autograph please,' Rebecca asked. Dodie nodded grabbing a piece of paper and a pen, 'Yes! Absolutely!' She quickly wrote down her signature and passed it to her and asked me if I want one. 'Yes please!'
She handed it to me with a smirk on her face, her cheeks rosy, 'Here, Message me,' she whispered into my ear walking past. I turned around and she did too, waving.
