Chapter Seven:
"Father?" Draco asked, following closely behind his father down a strange back alleyway. Everything was covered in cobwebs, along the wall were various strange symbols and messages Draco couldn't make sense of. He tried to stand up tall, to show his father he wasn't afraid.
"Relax Draco. Do you remember what we talked about?" Lucius replied, not bothering to turn around to look at Draco. The walk was already long enough and he didn't want to prolong things any longer.
Draco racked his mind, thinking of all the things his father had told him, just for a few seconds. Then he remembered, his eyes lit up. It meant that he was finally going to make his father proud of him. "I'm going to join You Know Who?" He asked in a hushed voice.
His father nodded. "Yes. It's time. His army needs new members, and I know that you are trustworthy."
Draco gulped and nodded, a strange new type of fear began to rush over him. His face paled. He thought of what his father would say, of what his father would do when Draco disappointed him again, like he always did eventually. Draco felt the need to prepare for the worst, as though he should be getting ready for the end of the world rather than a simple initiation. Although Draco highly doubted that it would be simple.
As they continued down the alley, the dark symbols covering the walls began to look more and more ancient, as well as more faded. Draco realized that they must be some sort of protection runes, although they weren't any sort that Draco had learned about in school. There was something about them that was more menacing. Just glancing up at them sent a chill down his spine. Then at last they came to a sort of door. It looked normal as far as Draco could tell, it was made of a light brown wood, although it was very beaten up. There were several large claw marks running across it, as well as marks from what appeared to be a crowbar. Spray painted on with a red spray can and done by someone who clearly didn't have a steady hand were the words 'STAY OUT'.
To say that it looked frightening was an understatement.
Lucius turned around to face his son. "This door has certain spells protecting it Draco." His father said to him with a very serious look on his face. He could tell that now was no time for joking around. "Do you know what those spells do, Draco?" Draco shook his head. He didn't have the slightest clue what they did. And he already knew by the fact that he hadn't learned about them already that they were very dark spells. Perhaps too dark spells that his father couldn't teach them to him in the safety of the Malfoy manor.
"These spells keep anyone who is against the ideals of the Dark Lord out." His father told him. "You don't want to know what happens when those who oppose the Dark Lord try to enter." Draco nearly shuddered when he heard his father say it. Blood curling images worked their way into Malfoy's brain. But he was ready for thus. He'd been ready for this his entire life.
"I'm ready to go through, father." he spoke with confidence, without a doubt in his mind. This was the fate that he'd been raised for. This was what he was meant to do. If the Dark Lord required his service for their army than he would happily serve. The mudbloods and blood traitors of the world deserved all the pain they were going to receive from the hands of Draco Malfoy. They had it coming for them.
His father opened the door slowly, trying to ignore the creaking sound. He held it open and let his son in first. "After you, Draco."
Draco nodded and walked through the door. Lucius held his breath. This was the moment that he found out whether or not he son was the person he raised him to be. This was the moment that he found out whether he'd failed or succeeded in being a parent. He watched closely as Draco made it through the door and had started walking down the dar hall inside. The boy flicked his wand and cast a lumos spell. Lucius did the same as he walked inside.
