Have you ever heard the phrase "Don't judge a book by its cover"? Well, people have judged me all my life for who I am. Or, as the correct term would be, what I am. As soon as people find that out, they run like sheep from a wolf. "Why?" you may ask. Well, you will soon find out, but first, let me introduce a very good friend of mine, named Jenny Harker.

Jenny Harker was a 16-year-old girl, with beautiful blonde hair, sparkling sapphire eyes, an absolute perfectly pretty face, and a heart with twice as much purity and love inside, as there was beauty outside. She lived with her mother, father, 14-year-old brother, and her grandfather, Jonathan Harker. They all lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Jenny has many, many friends. Everyone loved her, and she attended One Bright Ray Community High School. Every day was just like any other, and Jenny hated that. She wanted something unexpected to happen. Then, one day, that unexpected something DID happen.

Jenny was riding the bus to school when the bus stopped at a stoplight, and she looked out her window. She saw a boy walking in the giant looming shadow of a nearby building. He had hair as black as night, pale skin, dark clothes, and one last feature that Jenny found shocking: he had red eyes. Jenny found herself staring at the walking boy. He looked about 16, and he had what appeared to be a sorrowful look on his face. What happened next also surprised Jenny.

When the 16-year-old boy reached the edge of the building's shadow, he almost stepped into the sunlight, but he suddenly stopped. He pulled his foot back into the darkness, hesitated for a second, and pulled out an umbrella. He opened it, put it over his head, and continued walking.

The stoplight then turned green, and the bus continued on its way to the school. Soon the boy was out of sight, but not before Jenny saw him reach the shadow of the next building, close the umbrella, and keep walking. Who was this boy?  Jenny thought. And why did he do that with the umbrella? Was he afraid of the sun or something?  Jenny had no idea, and she thought about what she saw, all the way to school.
