Wolves Should Be Meaner, Right?

There's this town that's far enough away that I'm safe, but close enough that I can steal stuff that I need. And in the town is this asshole that is running shit.

Asshole has it in for me because I stole something from him five months ago...way to hold a grudge. I don't even remember what it was, but he keeps sending his goons into the woods hoping to get me.

I might not have been able to go to school long, but I read all the time. Anything I can get my hands on and I was able to figure out away to make an alarm system for when they get too close.

I'm not proficient with bow and arrows yet. I made my own bow. It's beautiful if I do say so myself. And my arrows are easy to make too,so that's why I want to get better than seventy percent chance of hitting the target. Throwing knives are okay. I'm great with guns, but I don't use them often for obvious reasons like I don't have unlimited ammo and they're loud and I'll give my spot away immediately.

Machetes are perfect.

Silent, don't need any ammo, can sever limbs with one quick swing and haven't let me down yet.

Fucking poetry in motion.

Downside...you have to be pretty close in order to inflict the damage that needs to be done.

Which is why I have had eleven major injuries since I have learned how to defend myself.

I don't like to think about how many I had before then.

I've had to kill before and I have no problem doing it again and again if it means I live another day.

People have gotten close. I have the scars to prove it, but we are still around and they aren't.

Asshole's goons haven't gotten close. Between Tommy and my alarms, I usually have enough warning to be ready for them. The scars are from before. When I was weaker and before Tommy.

Except the little bastard is missing right now.

And even though I've tried putting it off, I can't anymore and I have to go hunting.

It was early morning, the sun has barely risen, and I was seconds away from catching my prey. I was lucky today. Usually all I see in my travels in bunnies and squirrels and mice and today I was able to find a deer.

Of course if I manager to kill her, I will have to drag her home by myself, so that's gonna suck a big one.

I pulled back the string and waited for the shot.

The deer turned towards a twig snapping somewhere in the distance and looked around. I panicked and that caused me to miss, but I quickly grabbed another arrow from the quiver on my back.

The deer was running now and I knew I had to be more careful. The tip of my arrow followed her until I released it. The deer went down hard and I smiled.

We would actually be able to eat well for a couple of days.

I saw a flash of black running towards the fallen deer.

I stomped towards my sole companion and our lunch.

Tommy looked away when I came closer.

"You know what you did, right?" I asked and he lowered himself to the ground. "Want your freedom? Fine, go nuts, but disappear for that long again and I'm going to get a replacement for you." His gray eyes met mine and I pointed at him before pointing to where I left the sled. "You want forgiveness, bring the deer to the sled so we can get home." I collected the arrow that missed the deer before turning towards Tommy.
