Breakthrough

Chapter 38

When we reached Torrine, we got into our positions. Callan, Ryan and Linh went to the entrance, then the rest of us went to the secret entrance. Callan. I transmitted. Go on 3. 1... 2............. 3! GO! I heard yelling and screaming. "Come on, let's go." Tam whispered. A Shadowflux spear flew past my ear. Sorry! Transmitted Callan.

When we surfaced, the whole fort was empty. "Sophie, search for people around us!" I shouted. A few seconds later, she shouted, "Found someone!" And rushed off to the right. We followed her to a little room.

I knocked the door down, and a surprised Neverseen agent pulled out a medler. Luckily, we had one too. He crumpled to the ground in a heap. Sophie put her hands on his temples, and shouted, "Found them!"

We rushed out of the room, and down a hallway. We saw the room with no roof, and watched the sky. A few seconds... Ryan's head appeared on the top of the roof with a grim face. And then he shot up 2 flares. "Um we're right here Ryan," I said. "Yeah," he started. "But Callan and Linh aren't." "Did they get captured?" I asked. "You think?" He asked.

"Callan took 1 down with a Shadowflux cheetah, and the help of Linh before they went down." "Does that mean the one they took down is dead...?" I asked slowly. "No, but he was very injured, so it is possible he is now."

We rushed out of the room and ran down a hall. I tried to open it but it was locked. "Dex, come here. Can you open this?" I asked. He nodded. "I need a few minutes though," he said. "Ok, we'll by you time," I told him. Then I heard Callans voice in my mind. It was very faint. Listen, Kelly... parents... room... trap! Was all I heard. What? I transmitted back. No response.

"Guys I think the room is a trap! Callan just transmitted to me!" Almost on queue, Dex said, "got it!" And the lock clicked open. "Be careful," I warned. "As I walked in, I heard a faint beep."

Then it hit me. "Everybody run!" I yelled. Everybody scrambled back and ran in different directions. There was a loud explosion and lots of smoke and fire, but Ryan managed to misdirect it away from us. I heard a voice in the smoke. "Hm, it seems they got tipped off by that boy," it said. "Go check my parents!" Ryan yelled. Me and Ryan both scrambled into the room- or what was left of it.

Ryan's parents looked perfectly unharmed, probably because they had a force field around them. "Tam! Get over here!" Ryan yelled. I realized that since there was still a force field, the voice was Ruy. Then suddenly a body flew at the force field and smashed into it. Then a spear of darkness pinned him to it by the shoulder. I looked around to see Callan and Linh being shrouded by shadows.

Callan winked at me and I nodded. "Guys! Go!" I yelled. (OMG sorry for the cringe) We went at them with all our forces! Around me there were sounds of battle all around. "Go! Go! Go!" I heard Vespera yell. Wait, why is she here? I thought.

I looked around and noticed her by her pointy ears. When I rushed at her, she sidestepped, and I fell into the rubble. "Silly children," she hissed. "No reinforcements." Almost on queue, a huge group of people glittered onto the battleground.

"Mr. Forkle!" I yelled. He was there with Grady, Edaline, Alden, Della, The Collective, etc. etc. Even the council was there! I got up and summoned all the wind I could. "Your time is over, ancient scum." I commented back.

I pushed all the wind I could at her, and she fell into a fire that Ryan made. Then Callan had a black wolverine bite her in the arm and she writhed in pain as the fangs got bigger and bigger, cracking the tiny bones in her body.

"Linh, we can't kill her!" I yelled. "Put out the fire!" Linh pushed water at it and smothered the flames. I looked around at out surroundings. The council and The collective were all spread out, among various people. I made my way over to Grady and Edaline. But before I did that, I went over to Callan and slapped him really hard across the face.

He had still been forcing Shadowflux into Vespera, and torturing her. He stopped and blacked out when I slapped him. I continued my way over to Grady and Edaline. When I got there, I started to help them attack a goon.

"Grady, how did you know we needed help?" I asked. "We had eyes on you the whole time," He said. "I'll explain later," he said when I opened my mouth. "Right now we have a bigger problem. The Neverseen wouldn't be that easy to beat. We think this was a diversion. I'll also explain that later."

The battle went on for about 30 minutes.(again, lazy. Also, 11)

Fire blazed up from behind us, and all the screaming stopped. People were crowding around a thing. I walked over to the crowd and looked at what they were gathering around. Lady Gisela was on the ground. "I... I guess you won." She started.

Keefe's eyes were tearing up, and the color was slowly draining from Lady Gisela's face. "I'm sorry Keefe. I have to go now. Tell your father I'm sorry... and Keefe... I lo-" Lady Gisela closed her eyes. Keefe turned away and buried his face in his hands. The crowd had mixed reactions. Some were crying. Some were silently cheering. But most of us felt empty. Felt like we didn't have a purpose anymore.

I always knew that someday it would come to this. We would have to kill. I'm only Eleven. I never thought i'd have to see someone die.

Keefe turned back to the group. "I... just want to say a few things," "Go ahead." Councilor Emery cleared. Keefe sighed. "I know my mom was a bad person. But she was my mom. She still loved me and cared for me, but she just chose the wrong path."

"I'd like to say a few things too." Sophie said. "Although Lady Gisela was a bad person, she still was a big part of my life. She's the mom of my best friend, Keefe. And I think we should still plant her seed in the Wandering Woods."

We all walked away. The councilors glittered away, and The black swans goblins carried Lady Gisela's body away. Ryan's Family was still unconscious but they were still breathing. As we light leaped away, I took one last look at the battlefield. We had finally won.
