Game of Death: The Scarlet Lady

Chapter 3: Melissa's Encounter

Mona could not stop wondering who the Scarlet Lady was. She knew only one thing...one terrifying thing, something that ate at her. The Scarlet Lady was in the school and all that did was narrow it down to... everyone.

Later on that day, Mona was on her laptop. She glanced over to her Burberry tote bag on her bed and noticed the fabric. She put her laptop down and walked over to her bag. She picked up the fabric and studied it over. It was a soft material, easily torn. She looked at it for a minute, but right when she was about to put it back, she noticed something on it... a letter. It was stitched into the corner of the fabric. Before, it was part of a torn of letter, but there wasn't enough to tell what it was. The letter she could distinguish was the letter "A". Was it the Scarlet Lady's real name? Maybe she ripped it off of a scarf or jacket or something, or it could have just been the name of a company, which seemed more likely. It didn't reveal much, but it was one clue to finding out who the Scarlet Lady really was.

* * *

Melissa sat quietly in front of the fireplace.

"This is too much...," she said aloud, throwing her head into her hands and beginning to cry.

No one was home to comfort her, but it was what she was used to. It was rare for anyone to be home. The rest of her family was at a basketball game for her little brother. His first basketball game. Melissa didn't go because she felt like an outcast all of a sudden. Nobody else was forced to kill their best friends! Not a lot of people had their sisters threatened to be killed. She felt like people looked at her differently. Wait. Why did the Scarlet Lady threaten her sister? Why not her brother, mother, or father? She had said her sister, right? She could swear that's what the lady said , but...it made no sense.

"Maybe I'm missing something," she thought.

In her head, she pressed play and the scene started playing.

There was Melissa, sitting at her vanity, brushing her hair when she heard something. Quickly, she looked over to where the noise had come from. Someone was moving outside of her doorway. It sounded like something was being dragged on the ground. Could it just be the cat playing with one her toys? She heard it again and she knew it was a lot larger than cat, but where was the noise coming from?

She got up from her seat and approached the door. Melissa reached for the solver knob and twisted it slowly, scared of what could lie on the other side.

Her heart was racing. As usual, nobody was home to save her, especially if there was a killer outside her room. She finished turning the knob, but didn't open the door. Melissa sprung over to her bedside table and grabbed her cell phone. Quickly, she dialed 911 but didn't press send, just in case it really was her cat, Susana.

Melissa threw the door open. The noise had stopped. Nobody was there. Nothing was there. She stepped out into the hallway to look around. Her parents' bedroom door was open.

"Maybe they went in there," Melissa mumbled to herself, listening for the noise again.

She started to her parents' room when the noise scraped against her ears again, making her jump. Whatever it was, it was behind her.

Melissa stopped in her footsteps and turned around slowly. She heard the dragging noise again from inside her room, but then, it stopped. On her tip toes, she went into her room, clutching her cell phone. She still had 911 dialed in and her thumb rested on the SEND button. That's when saw her, The Scarlet Lady. Melissa screamed.

"Who are you!?" she exclaimed.

Standing by her window was a woman in a scarlet cloak. The hood hid her face, but she could see her outfit underneath the cloak. She wore black leggings and a white blouse of some sort. She couldn't make out the outfit completely because the cloak was tied at the chest with a black ribbon. Suddenly, she took a step forward. Melissa panicked and pressed send.
