Chapter Three:
~Harry's POV~
I was just reminiscing over some fond memories I had before the whole fame while I unpacked, until I was disrupted from my thoughts as I heard Niall scream.
"There's no food in the fridge!"
I could hear his footsteps running up the stairs and the next thing I saw were his bright blues eyes appear in my doorway as he begged for me to drive him to the supermarket to stock the kitchen up. We do need food to survive so I agreed to drive him. We headed into the garage and discovered a brand new Range Rover just like my one back home. Nice! As I backed out of the driveway, Zayn, Liam and Louis all appeared shouting at us to stop. Suddenly they sprinted to the car and hopped in. "Looks like we're going on an outing today" I exclaimed.
We arrived at a huge shopping centre that overwhelmed us all. We were sure to get lost in here at some point. The first stop was to get American sim cards for our phones which was a lot easier than expected. Thankfully no one had recognised us so the beginning of this trip to the mall was successful so far. After our phones were ready to go, we split up. Liam and Louis went to a homewares' shop to buy décor for Louis' room and blinds for Liam's while Niall, Zayn and I headed over to the supermarket. I honestly don't think I have seen so many eager grocery shoppers in my life as Zayn and Niall literally raced to go grab a trolley. The supermarket was chock a block and we could barely get passed anyone so we decided to assign one another the items we each had to get and then meet by the cashiers. I was in charge of the dairy and fresh vegetables and fruit. Thankfully both sections were on the same side as the cashiers so that was a bonus for me. I skipped around picking out a good variety of vegetables and a nice assortment of fruit. While choosing some yoghurt in the fridge section, I couldn't help but notice a really fit girl. I know all American girls are hot but this one was different. She wore a cream knitted jumper, short shorts and red vans. She was so naturally perfect and she had the cutest freckles on her face. I wanted to make a good impression so I approached her and introduced myself. She seemed like she was in shock as I said my name was Harry, but maybe she didn't recognise me as she didn't mention anything about me in the band. "Hi, I'm Maddy" was her reply in her cute little American accent.
And of course, the song had to come on at the most inappropriate time. I heard the cowbell and then Liam's voice singing "You're insecure, don't know what for...." Why did What Makes You Beautiful have to come on at this particular moment?! I couldn't help but smile though, it was pretty funny. I then noticed that she smiled too. She had the most incredible smile. "Is it weird when you hear your own songs out in public?" she asked. So she did recognise me! I was getting a little bit worried for a minute, thought she may have lived under a rock. "I get used to it, but it is a little strange" was my reply. I explained to her about how we were over in the States for a year to go to University and the fact that we won't be doing a lot of stuff for the band besides recording for a new album. She seemed really interested but didn't hyperventilate or anything. It was a positive reaction. We were deep in conversation talking about dreams for the future when the other boys ran up to me. They pulled me away to the check-out and I didn't even have a chance to say goodbye. I was actually devastated!
As we began unloading the food onto the conveyer belt for the checkout girl to scan, I realised that I left my shopping trolley at the dairy section. The boys literally yanked me away and the shopping completely slipped my mind. This was the best excuse to say goodbye to Maddy and maybe even grab her number while I'm at it. I ran to the chilled aisle and saw my trolley. Okay good, I didn't want to forget it again! I wandered up and down the aisle but didn't see her. I looked in a few other sections but she was nowhere to be seen. I decided I should go since the boys would be waiting and getting pretty impatient too. I was really upset that I didn't get to see Maddy again as she seemed like such a nice girl and I found I was being myself when I was around her. I wheeled the trolley to the boys and handed each item, one by one to the lady who scanned them. I noticed that Niall was checking her out but decided not to say anything. Who knows what that boy was thinking about. Once all was done and we paid, we left the supermarket with two shopping trolleys stacked all the way to the top. I wondered how long this food would last us for.
We met the other lads at the car and we only had to wait a few minutes until they came. This little outing was very enjoyable and I know we were all thankful that we were not recognised by one single person! I guess when you wear a baseball cap and keep you head down; people don't notice your face. The whole car ride home, I couldn't take my mind off Maddy. I really wish I got her number. I just hate the thought of not seeing her again.
When we arrived home, Liam and Louis, the keen beans they are, ran straight up the stairs to go decorate their rooms with their newly purchased interior designs. I watched 'Friends' while Niall and Zayn unpacked the groceries. I mean, I drove to and from the shops so surely I deserved a break?! I was beginning to enjoy this new lifestyle as it was so much more relaxing and stress free. But I guess that was before school would start....
