"Stories, writing, listening, reading, creating...What do these words mean to you?"

All around, the class was quiet. Crickets played the song of their kind as the silence danced around the faces who paid to be here.

No one was brave enough to voice their opinion. Well, except for the ones that wanted to be seen and heard. Dannie messed with her pen, biting her lip, and just watched. Some were on their phones. Some were still catching up with the notes on the current slide displayed on the screen. Others like herself were waiting for someone to speak, to finally save them from the awkward silence that would ensue if no one were to speak up. It would be easier if there wasn't such an intense look upon Professor's face...

Dannie looked around one last time, inhaled, and finally opened her mouth, but was completely cut off by the one that felt like she had to say something. "It is life. Otherwise why would you be here in this class unless you were just wasting money?" You could have kept writing. Dannie thought to herself.

Pressing her lips together, she ran her fingers through her hair, glancing at the professor who just shrugged his shoulders, glancing at his notes before up at the slide on the smart board. "I wouldn't say life, Miss Michaels." He held up his hands in front of him, looking down at the ground as he spoke for a moment. "Think about it, there are stories everywhere, writing is happening as we speak, listening is happening right now—Well for the ones who aren't on their phones." He stopped, staring pointedly at the group of girls on the third row who immediately looked up from their screens. One of them had blushed and put her phone away while the others just shrugged their shoulders and continued to look at their phones.

"Anyways," He growled, turning his head away from them. "These things are happening right now, at this moment, in this very second they are happening, but yet, what do they mean to us? What do they mean to you?" He asked, still not clearly getting the point across, but yet he still expected an answer. Typical college professor. Dannie glanced to the side where the girl had been a little taken aback that he didn't accept her answer right on the spot.

"They are means of expressing ourselves." Dannie finally opened her mouth, this time not being cut off.

"In a way, yes. Isn't that why you're here? To express yourselves in a way to give you enough back up to get you a paying job at the end once you graduate?" He asked. Dannie leaned back in her seat, glancing around, having felt looks in her direction. She didn't usually say much, so most have not even heard her voice before.

It was as if a two year old was hearing for the first time. Even the professor had seemed surprised. He didn't even remember her name.

Dannie began writing again as he switched the slide continuing on with the lecture. She didn't really understand the point of the lecture. Talking about why they were there, talking about why things were happening around us and how they relate. Talking about life was pretty much was what this class was.

Buzz, Buzz, Buzzzzz. Her phone vibrated in her lap. As the professor drowned on about things that she had already written down, her own eyes focused on her purchased screen. The words written caused her stomach to tighten up. Her cheeks felt flushed and she bit her lip for a moment before releasing. Glancing upward, she took in a deep breath as her eyes focused back on the screen. Her fingers shook as she gripped her pencil to write the last bit of notes that she had almost missed.

Heart beating fast, she glanced back downward at the words on the screen. Words could only mean so much, but when they came from a certain person, everything came rushing back. It washed over her body and she felt as if she was in that moment again.

Standing in the rain, she could only giggle. Wet and cold, she felt the wind blow even harder. The rain poured down on her head, dripping through her thick hair. Chills ran down her spine as she stood there. Rain hit her from every side, claiming every part of her body that it touched. Although she should be worried about the rain soaking in and claiming her immune system, her eyes were locked on a pair of blue eyes. A pair of blue gems that made her heart beat faster, ones that made her heart swell and her knees lock up.

"Aren't you cold?" He chuckled touching her face with those worn fingertips. She couldn't help herself, she stepped closer, shaking her head. She always pushed herself to be stronger in front of him. "I'm never cold when you're around." She whispered, standing close to him. The rain traveled down his face, catching on his long eye lashes, touching that tan skin that hid his handsome dimples. The crooked smile spread across his face as he leaned in for a kiss, but only to stop a few inches away from her lips. "Crazy girl." He said smoothly, caressing her ears with his silky voice. She rolled her eyes and pushed her way to his lips, covering his with her own for a few solid moments.

She was pulled back into reality when she heard her name. "Dannie?" Someone had said. Glancing around, she noticed one of the friends staring at her. "Are you leaving or are you staying here?" She asked. Dannie nodded her head, gathering her stuff and letting it fall into her back pack.

Zipping up her coat, she ran her fingers through her hair, pulling it free as they walked out of the now empty classroom. "What was wrong with you? You zoned out." Kye asked, nudging her shoulder.

Dannie still held onto her phone, still having not responded to him. "Nothing. I am tired. My roommates kept me up again." She said softly. Kye rolled her eyes and shook her head. A grunt escaped her lips before she spoke again. "One of these days I'm going to go over there and just tell them to shut up or get out. And you're going to love me for it." She said, throwing her hands out in gesturing motion.

"Go for it. I'd like to see you go against Terry." Dannie laughed. Even just her name caused Kye to shut her mouth and glance at her friend. Terry had been one of her taller and more intimidating roommates. She was also the loudest, but no one was brave enough to tell her what to do. With her scary stories of constantly getting into fights back at home, none of them wanted to feel what her punches felt like.

"Well...I approach things differently with her." Kye said, covering her ass as she blushed a little. As brave as she thought she was, those bigger than her was her weakness. Dannie could only shake her head and throw her arm around her friend. "Come on, we have lunch calling our names."

"Did you already forget? I have Theory. So I'll have to catch up with you later, despite how grumpy my tummy is." Kye said, shrugging her off and walking down the hallway opposite from where Dannie had been heading.

Pressing her lips together, Dannie glanced around her, letting the crowds pass by, before she finally pushed through the doorway and glanced through the glass doors. Outside was exactly what she was dreading. Condensation hit the windows as many people continued to open and close the entrance doors. She felt her heart sank as she realized why he had text her.

She glanced back down at her phone.

My crazy girl...I miss you.

The words were displayed so perfectly in the message that she couldn't help but feel her heart leap. Bracing herself, she shoved her phone in her pocket and ran into the rain.
