Chapter 1: "Four Coffee Cups"

You just moved into an apartment downtown, so you were walking in and out of the building, helping the movers with the boxes full of your stuff into your new studio. There weren't many though, so you thought you could help them to cut down on time. You were so tired from all the packing you had been doing the past few weeks that you just wanted to get it over with.

"Is that all, ma'am?" one of the movers asked you, cleaning his hands while shuffling them on the textile of his dark grey pants. You didn't know if that was their original color or if they were just dirty.

"Yes, that would be all. Thank you." You nodded politely and accompanied them to the end of the small entrance lobby. You started to close the main front door after they exited, but you were cut off almost immediately.

"Wait!" a manly voice alerted from the outside, and before you could correspond his demand, he was already holding the door to avoid it from closing shut in his face. "Sorry." He chuckled, stepping in. He had his hands busy with a cardboard cup holder full of what looked like hot coffee for four.

"Oh, no," you ensured with honesty, shaking your head in opposition and running your hands briefly through your messy hair. It was greasy, and you suddenly felt ashamed of your looks. "It's okay."

The heavy wooden door finally closed shut and there was a loud noise that came with it.

Since his eyes were behind dark sunglasses, you could only tell that he was a handsome guy by the way a slight dimpled look took over his expression.

"You just moved in, right?" he questioned. Not even waiting for your reply, he then exclaimed. "Welcome!"

You nodded with a friendly smile. "Yeah, 102B." you replied as you showed him the label that hanged from your key chain.

"I'm 202B." he shifted his position slightly and you quickly noticed he was pointing towards his front pocket, the same key chain as yours dangling from it. "If you need anything, just ask." He said as he started climbing the stairs. "Nice meeting you!"

His briefness startled you. You finally replied a few seconds later, slightly raising your voice so he could hear you through the dividing floors. "Thanks! Nice meeting you too!"

A drained sigh escaped your lips as you made your way back to your place, a few steps away from the stairs. You entered and closed the door behind you, taking in the mess in front of you. How can it be so empty yet messy? The white walls bored you, but you were sure that once you unpacked all your art, it would look better. Making your way through the stuff scattered all over the floor, you threw yourself onto the sofa and passed out, not before hearing a chorus of boyish cheering upstairs.
