MAGNUS POV
It began on a Saturday evening. Magnus sat there, stiff from sitting still so long. Eventually, he got up, rubbing his butt. He had come all the way to New York to find his older cousin, Annabeth. Annabeth Chase. It had been a while since he had seen her. According to her dad, she had left for New York a few days before he had reached San-Fran.
From there, he made his way east towards NYC. Along the way he had encountered monster after monster. Some of them he hadn't even encountered before. Some kind of giant with one eye, a snake-lady. It was a bit weird. Eventually he made it to Texas thanks to the help of an ironically named Zoo-Animal Transportation Company. 'Humane my demigod butt,' Magnus thought. Once they reached Texas, Magnus released the animals and scared the driver and his partner off by screaming nonsense at them. His time in Boston had helped him learn some different skills. Like scaring people off by acting like an insane homeless kid, or getting enough money to get yourself to New York from Texas. After utilising skills Magnus hadn't used in a while, 'not since Boston,' he thought, Magnus had made up enough money to get to New York. Legally too, which was a bonus. Though, Magnus didn't like being stared at in the bus by everyone for smelling like a petting zoo. Eventually he made it to New York. Home of the Yankees, the inferior baseball team in Magnus' honest opinion. On his way to the Big Apple, he met some Gothic Chick named Thalia.
The Gothic girl told him she was staying near the upper east side. Odin's left eye, that girl was weird. Her sense of style only made it worse. Who wore anything with a dead barbie doll on it? Not to mention the ridiculous bow she kept on her back. 'Probably a hipster,' Magnus thought. At least her choppy black hair was pretty cool. Magnus stood and went to pick up his bag. It wasn't there. Suddenly a feeling of panic flooded Magnus' body, he felt like he could start to drown in his own worry at any second. He cursed in Nordic Speech.
'Smooth move, swag-ness! Definitely letting all that swag show, aren't you?.' He thought to himself silently.
'Boss, cursing at yourself won't help, but 'ey. 'Least y'got me, huh?'
"Sure, Jack. Because I didn't need that money that I would've used to buy my food." Magnus snapped.
'See, now y'gettin' it, boss.' Magnus rolled his eyes and thought about what people do when they come to New York. He had never been to the city and wasn't sure what the general public did while they came to a giant, concrete jungle like this. Buy stuff? Yeah, not happening. He was broke. But Blitz had told him that some weird stuff went on around here. But, considering his trip, Magnus wasn't sure if he meant the kind of weird stuff Midgardians did. But then again, after what he had seen while in New York, he wasn't sure of that either.
There was an hour before dawn and New York was starting to wake up. The soft orange colors of the morning began painting themselves across the skyline. Magnus turned and looked at the taxi that he had come in. It was already leaving, getting the next shipment of tourists. Magnus thought back to the silver-clad Goth who had pointed him in the direction of Annabeth.
'She better not be getting in with the wrong crowd. Midgardians can be stupid. Some more than others,' He smirked at his joke. Minutes went by before he decided to do something. Magnus began walking to nowhere in particular. The city was amazing. Buildings rivalling the kind Magnus saw in Valhalla flanked his every side. Though, the trash and litter left on the streets bummed him out a bit.
Magnus' adventure brought him to 34th. Magnus stopped, feeling the sun suddenly be cut off. He turned and looked up at the Empire State Building. He let out a choked gasp, awestruck. This thing was made decades ago, without cranes. It was an amazing testament to the less stupid side of midguardians. It looked like something that belonged in Asgard. Magnus walked to the closed doors A security guard stood inside, eyeing him uneasily. As a homeless kid for a lot of his life, Magnus had grown used to weird stares from security guards, but something was especially off about this guy. His look had an all-knowing air about it. As if he already knew what a kid like him wanted. Not a homeless kid, no. The more... 'weirdo' side of him. Magnus shrugged, walking along the pavement.
