Nandini ran out of their, his closeness, once comforting and safe, now suffocating her.......only stopping when she heard something drop behind her. She turned around only to face the very reason she had come here.
She picked it up, and with hesitation clear on her face, she almost turned to go back to her worst nightmare when she was faced with the second most uncomfortable situation life could throw at her.
Her heart filled up with guilt as she Dhruv's face contoured in pain as he tried to change his disheartened expression to offer her the smile she had grown fond of in the past few months she'd known this sweet and innocent whom she never would've imagined hurting, even unintentionally.
Achieving two targets with one shot, she decided to face the lesser painful situation and give them both the closure they needed to move on from this unfateful night.
Before he could go on, she walked towards him, with slow, tiny steps, breathing in and out with each to bring down her nervousness. She knew what lay in front of her, this was a now or never task, either she could've tried or she looses a great friend forever, and with everything going on, she knew she couldn't afford the latter. Especially Dhruv, she knew she would never find a purer soul than him, and she'd rather hurt him with rejection than break him in the uncertainty of their equation.
No, she couldn't do this to the guy who'd always cheer her up and put a smile on her face, the one who wasn't tainted in peer pressure, the one willing to go to the furthest lengths just to make her feel special, the one who never held a grudge, who understood, the guy who hit his best friend for her, gave her the support she needed, she couldn't do that to the sweet, sensitive, chivalrous, gentle, kind and innocent Dhruv, he didn't deserve it.

She took a deep breath as she faced him, a small sad smile lingering on his face, his pain clearly visible in his eyes.
"Dhruv, tumne andar jo bhi kaha......(whatever you said inside....)"
He winced remembering how embarrassing his confession must've been, she never treated him any different than a friend and he just went on with his own fantasies. The last thing he needed was a confrontation.
"It's Okay, I wasn't thinking straight. Don't think about it too much. Tumhe mujhe koi explaination ya reply dene ki zaroorat nahi hai (You don't need to give me any explaination or answer)"
He went around her, but stopped hearing her protest, as she came in front of him again.
