Chapter 1

"Robin! Pay attention!" my best Marisa exclaims pulling me out of my daydream.

" I'm listening" I mutter.

My eyes linger to the ticking clock in the school cafeteria,  12:30 already. My heart skips a beat , at 1:00 today two students, one boy and one girl  from our senior class will be chosen to go to this year's trip to Cancun. I turn my gaze back to Marisa blabbering on about her social studies teacher that she despises. Its only the first day of school and she already found something to complain about. I interupt her suddenly and ask the question that has been haunting me all day.

" Who do you think will be chosen to go on the trip?

" Well Adam Matthews will definately get chosen and for the girls I think Summer Stevens will probably go, I mean they are they most popular people in the school and they would make a cute couple too! " she gushes.

I gritt my teeth in anger, Summer Stevens, my worst enemy. Ever since we got to highschool our friendship had drifted apart, she chose the popular crowd and well I...I chose to remain invisible.  Then in 10th grade a rumour got around that said I had hooked up with her boyfriend at a party and ever since then I've been the subject of her death glares and snide comments at lunch. She never forgave me even after I tried to explain the truth, and ever since then she has sworn to make my life a living hell.

The school bell rings signaling the end of lunch and it's my turn to dump my tray. As I make my way toward the trash can a foot sticks out and before I know it I'm on the ground. I turn my head and meet Summer's eyes, burning with hate. " Looks like someone had a little... accident" she snickers with the rest of her posse cackling behind her. I glance down at my jeans and find a recent chocolate milk stain near my thigh. She smirks and then exits the cafeteria along with her group of friends. This day was just going great.

I file  into the gym along with the rest of the student body, I take a seat on the bleachers next to Marisa. The bubbly conversations of the people around me fill the air, their anxious voices bounce around the gym walls. Suddenly Marisa leans in and whispers in my ear " What was that in the cafeteria??" a look of concern crosses her face. " I don't really wanna ta-" my voice is cut off by  Principal Smith. He clears his throat and grabs the microphone. My stomach flutters as the assembly begins.

"Welcome Seniors!" he exclaims. A few muttered hi's escape the crowd."Now for the moment you've all been waiting for , it is my pleasure to draw  the winners of this years big trip , remember once you are picked you have two weeks to pack and prepare yourself for the trip. One boy and one girl will be choosen."he says. He reaches his hand in the ball labeled "boys" and pulls out a scrap of paper. " Adam Samuels, you have been choosen to go to this year's trip to Cancun!" the principal excitedly states. The crowd erupts in applause as Adam walks down to stand beside the principal on the podium, a confident smile cast on his face. "Now for the girls!" Mr. Smith practically shouts. A wave of nerves bubbles up in my stomach. Mr. Smith reaches his hand in another ball and pulls out a scrap piece of paper. "Robin Samuels, you have been choosen to go to this year's trip to Cancun as well!" An excited Marisa is shaking my arm, I pull away and walk towards the podium, my stomach twisting in knots as the crowd lets out a few suprised gasps. The principal hands us our tickets and then explains what time our plane leaves and all of the details of the trip to Cancun as the students exit the gym. He then dismisses me and Adam and before we part our ways Adam turns to give me a smirk. I look away in disgust. It was just my luck...
