The dusky sky was already dusted with stars. We were lying in the back of his rusty pickup, the chilly breeze reminding me of the imminent change of seasons. He pulled the quilt up to our chins with one hand while pointing up with the other.

"There's another one! That's three tonight. That means you get three wishes," he said, wagging his eyebrows.

I laughed. "And who is supposed to grant these wishes, if you please?"

"I will, of course. Up to half of my kingdom, that is," he winked.

I pulled the quilt up over our heads just in case anyone else decided to drive down this desolate dirt road to witness what I hoped we'd do next.

"First wish," I whispered in his ear, "is that you kiss me. Every day. For the rest of your life."

"Servitude!" he scoffed but planted the softest kiss on my mouth. "Easy. Next."

"Fine.... That you never go back to Victoria. Not without me, anyway."

"Well, it would be a bit difficult to kiss you everyday from there," he smirked.

"I'm serious."

He furrowed his brow and cleared his throat. I waited as he searched for his next words.

"You know I would do anything to make you happy, babe. Anything." He raised himself up on one elbow, his body facing mine. "I hate the thought of being apart from you."

I returned his gaze and allowed the happiness of the moment to spread its way slowly across my face until I beamed. I rested a hand on his cheek, and his face relaxed, breaking into a smile that matched my own.

"Don't you worry," I said. "You're stuck with me." I pushed up to meet his lips when he interrupted.

"Wait! You have one more wish! I know if I start kissing you for real, you'll forget all about it," he teased.

"I'm going to save the last one for later. You never know when I might need you at my beck and call," I replied, trying unsuccessfully to keep a straight face.

"Alright, Your Majesty. As your loyal subject, I will take it upon myself to remember that you have one wish left."

"One wish left," I echoed.

He finally closed the distance between our lips, and I closed my eyes as I relaxed into his grip. At the sound of tires grinding dirt, my eyes sprang open. He ripped the quilt from our bodies as he sat straight up in alarm.

I saw the flash of headlights reflected off his face, and then everything went dark.

Welcome to One Wish Left! So thankful you could join me for this journey.

Enjoy :)
