Hello there! Thank you for clicking on this collection of short stories. I'm very, very new to short story writing, and I'm aware it is stylistically quite different. Hopefully, the more I write, the more I will improve.

Now, why did I call this Crystals & Crows? The first reason is that one of the short stories is literally called Crystals & Crows.

The second reason -- and, arguably, the most important one -- is that the short stories themselves are divided. Some are crystals: inspiring, optimistic, and full of light. Some of the stories, however, are crows: dark, observant, and rather cynical.

For your convenience, I have included a table of contents with the short stories, as well as the prompts and trigger warnings. That way, you can see which story appeals to you the most, and find it easily. Also, if there are certain things you refuse to read - bad language, sensitive topics - then you know which stories to avoid.

In brackets, I will also be including whether the story is a crystal or a crow. If you want a more light-hearted story, look for the crystals. If you want something darker -- more emotional, too -- try the crows.

TABLE OF CONTENTS:

1. Crystals & Crows [crystal]

Prompt: Write an excerpt from a story about a cowardly computer geek. Your excerpt must somehow contain a crow.

Mature? No.

2. Mine [crow]

Prompt: Write a short scene that takes place on a soccer field. The rest is up to you.

Mature? No.

3. Little Red [crow]

Prompt: Write a scene from a classic fairytale or myth in modern times, making it relatively clear which story you're using.

Mature? Yes, as it references mental illness (namely, dementia).

4. Happy Thoughts [crystal]

Prompt: Create a new invention and describe it in a small scene.

Mature? No.

5. Red Skies [crow]

Prompt: This prompt was an image of a red sky, with overhanging black branches.

Mature? No.

6. Not Nothing [crystal]

Prompt: It's not always the prince who slays the dragon... Write a 500-word story about a princess saving the day.

Mature? No.

7. A Thousand Nights [crow] — MY CURRENT FAVOURITE.

Prompt: Write a story about people trapped in the wrong time.

Mature? Only for very mild language.

8. The Stars [crystal]

Prompt: "As you walk down the poorly-lit dirt road, you watch at the bright stars above you. You don't see anyone else on the road or in the shadowy trees that line it."

Mature? Yes. Strong language use, as well as very sensitive topics.

I hope you enjoy the short stories! And remember: sometimes, you need the crows to find the crystals, and sometimes, you need the crystals to inspire the crows
