The Selection

Chapter 5

There are some new names in this I'm so happy for you guys to finally read this after a while. I have been struggling writing this chapter but here it is. Hope you enjoy.

  It is the day that the North America group gets interviewed. The day I get interviewed. We eat breakfast, then practice, then lunch, then practice a little bit more, then a little snack before the interviews, get our outfits on, get interviewed, then eat dinner.

The day goes by really fast that it is like a blur and I barely remember at had happened earlier today. It is time for the interview though. I am wearing a dark blue round halter neckline dress that has gold beads from the waist up in a royal looking pattern and it has gold sequins to make a sparkling effect on the ball gown skirt of the dress. I have diamond and sapphire square earrings, I have my hair in a braided bun that is at the back of my head and it has blue hydrangea flowers in it and I am Wearing sandal high heels that have diamonds all over them, but you can barely see them with my big dress.

When I am called out for my interview I walk out and sit down in a seat next to the host, Jessamine.

"So, Skylar, D.C. is quite a change from Los Angeles. What's impressed you most since you arrived here?"

"The amazing food or the amazing scenery."

"So how about that training score. Twelve! Tell us what happened in there! Spill the tea!"

"I'm not sure that I can tell you," I look up to the gamemakers and one of them shouts out "She's not!"

"Well, Skylar Shields I did some research because I thought the last name Shields sounded familiar. I found out that a couple of years back in the finals there was a boy, Brian Shields, from Los Angeles that died. Is there any chance that you two are related?"

"Yes, Brian is my brother."

"Wow, that's some really sad news. What are the odds of two kids in the same family in The Selection?"

The buzzer goes off.

"Well, that means that time is up for Skylar. Skylar Shields from North America everybody."

When I finish my interview I go up to our floor and I go in my room where my prep team is waiting watching the other interviews. I take a shower and change into my normal clothes.

The next day we hang out and watch the interviews for the people from South America. I talk to Will the entire time the interviews go on. When the interviews are over I go up to my room and get changed into my pajamas. I hear a knock at the door and open the door and Will is standing outside my door.

"Can I come in for a moment?" He says.

"Sure."

He comes in and I sit on my bed while he shuts the door and then comes and sits on the bed with me.

"I want you to be my allie for the selection." He says.

"Okay Will we can be allies. I'm also allies with Lily, Olivia, Jose, and Julianna." I tell him.

"I'm okay with that. You want to watch a movie together?"

"Yeah sure. Why not?"

That night we just watched movies in my room and after about twenty minutes I look out of the corner of my eye and Will is looking at me. I look over in his direction and he starts to blush.

"S-s-sorry." He stammers out.

"It's okay," I tell him.

"It's just-just that. Your just-just so. You know. Beautiful. I like the way your eyes twinkle like stars. I like how your tough and you don't care about anyone that hates you. I like you. I mean to be honest when I first saw you it took every ounce of me to not kiss you. I like you and you may not have known that before but now you do. I probably even love you."

"I like you too," I tell him.

After that, we watched the movie together and cuddled and then we fell asleep next to each other. I wake up and me and Will fell asleep while we were watching The Fault in Our Stars. I get out of bed and Will wakes up. He goes to his room so he can get ready for today. I get dressed and we all walk outside and we get into a plane. We all go our separate ways and Jasper helps me into the same outfit that I wore into my first arena. When I am dressed I get into the tube and it raises me into the arena.

The sun is shining and a few people down I see Will. There are sixty seconds left until the gong sounds. I look around at my surroundings and I see a backpack and a few knives next to it. Fifteen. Fourteen. Thirteen. Twelve. Eleven. Ten. Nine. Eight. Seven. Six. Five. Four. Three. Two. One. The gong goes off.

I run for the backpack and the knives and pick them up. I run straight into the forest. Will, Olivia, Lily, Juliana, and Jose runs into the forest shortly behind me and they each picked up a backpack. I run ahead of them. I don't look behind me. I know their there. I run so fast that the only thing I can hear is them running behind me and my heart beating. Ba bump, ba bump.

We all run for about a mile and then stop for a break and check the things inside our backpacks. Inside my backpack I have a box of matches and a compass. Will has a water bottle halfway filled with water. Olivia has a loaf of bread and a pair of gloves. Lily has one sock and an empty plastic water bottle. Juliana has a roll of duct tape and a sticker. And Jose has medicine that says for burns.

We decide to stay there for the night so we make a tent out of tree branches. Soon after we finish making a little tent the night sky lights up with the death's of today.

Then we decided that we would take shifts. Lily and Olivia are the first people to stay up. After about two hours of sleeping Lily and Olivia wake me up and I do my shift with Juliana.

"I hate the fact that we are going to have to either all die or only one of us lives." Juliana says.

"Yeah. I just sometimes wish that it could be different where we could live like they did years ago. You know like when there was no Selection. And where world war 3 never happened." I responded.

We just sat there talking for two hours. Then it was Will and Jose's turn to stay up and guard. I hear them talking about their previous adventures in the games. Will would hide and Jose would make no friends and then attack anyone he saw. They talked about previous friends and their families. Then right before darkness consumes me I hear Will say that he loves me and I'm the best thing to ever happen to him.
