"Hey, watch where you're going!"

I glanced at the light haired, and also rude, man next to me. Gilbert had been acting like this since the day I came to this walled place, and he would glare at me from my appearance in the morning and then before I retreat to my quarters.

His attitude was beginning to irritate me. I also noticed when he's not round me, he's a chill guy who has a sense of humor. He acted like Alfred, that's what.

"Sorry," I growled once again. I rolled my eyes once after, and continued to shift the dirt around the cabbage in front of me so it was easy to pick off. It was a good thing that the field was fairly small. I can't stand to be around Gilbert and his dicky attitude.

At least we got more than half of it done.

Pulling up the cabbage, I stepped back a bit to balance. I had a bag full of the green vegetables on my back, and I didn't need them falling out.

"What the hell?!" came Gilbert's annoyed voice. Crap, what the hell have I done now? With an exasperated face, I looked towards him and braced for his complaining. "Look now! You've kicked dirt on the cabbage! This was a good one too!"

"Well just wash it off when we go back," I said simply. I mean, all of the cabbages had little specks of dirt on it.

"Washing it would waste water!" Gilbert growled. "Our supply has been running low lately!"

"Then just order more," I hissed. They had this system where they could get whatever they want right?

"We don't just receive water! They just fill up the well every two weeks, and we have to clean it out!"

I've had it.

"Well guess what?!" I shouted. I saw him pause in place, and I thought I saw fear in his eyes. Yes, that's what I needed. "Instead of complaining there and just whining about the mistakes I made, go do something about it! I've only been here for a short time, and you've already been getting on my case! I'm sick and tired of it, your damn attitude towards me is rude, and it's getting irritating!

"I don't know about you, but it's been annoying me from the very start that you've been bugging me about every little mistake without even getting to befriend me! More or less talk to me! I don't know if anyone else had to get put up with your attitude that you're giving me, but I'm sick and tired of it! I'm confused as hell right now, and no need to make it worse!"

Finally. Letting out the steam. Scowling at Beilschmidt for one last time, I grabbed his dirty cabbage from his hands and stormed off.

"Back so early?" the man behind the kitchen counter said. He had dark brown hair tied into a low ponytail, and wore a tank top. He, or she(?), looked up at me, realizing that I wasn't one of those familiar faces. "Oh, you're... [First] right? I'm Yao."

"Yeah," I hissed. Slamming down the bag of vegetables, I then sat down on a nearby chair. "Beilschmidt wouldn't shut up about his complaints about me, so I left."

Yao chuckled. "Really? I noticed he didn't take a liking to you since you came."

"Oh, really?!" I say sarcastically. "Anyway, did he act like this before?"

"Actually, no."

"That's what Ludwig said."

"Because they're both brothers. Anyway, Gilbert actually didn't act like that before. he was like stupid Alfred. Obnoxious," Yao said. I laughed, imagining the cocky Gilbert acting hilarious like Alfred. "He's actually one of the oldest here. We were all dropped off at the same time, and he kind of made everything organized."

"Surprising," I murmured sarcastically.

"As much as I hate to admit it, he's a pretty good leader." Yao sighed, and set a hand on my shoulder. "I don't think he likes it when the place is out of order. I mean, with a newcomer, we would have to rearrange the schedule for all of us and add you in."

"Doesn't mean he has to act like an ass about it," I said. "He could go easy, you know?"

"Well from what I heard, he didn't exactly have an easy life," Yao informed. "I don't know the details, but maybe that's why he wants everything to be organized. So anything bad doesn't happen to the rest of us. He's like our caretaker. Even though I think I'm about the same age as him."

"Well he could of at least told me the jobs and schedule around here, and tell me what I should do first," I huffed. Yao's words did make me curious of Gilbert though.

Right before any of us could say a word, the metallic entrance door opened. I glanced back, knowing who it was. "Beilschmidt," I said curtly.

"[First]," he glared back. I saw him shoot a look towards the cook behind me. Yao nodded, and then left the cafe. Gilbert then look back at me, with a somewhat less harsh look to him. "We need to talk."

"Yeah, I need to too," I say. "Please stop being a dick to me."

"Actually," Gilbert hesitated. "That's...what I came here to talk about." My eyes perked up towards him in surprise. Really? Was he really going to apologize for his rudeness?

The light-haired man in front of me took a deep breath. "I'm sorry. For my words... I was being hard on you, a-and I didn't realize it until you snapped at me. I was just angry that a newcomer like you got all the attention..."

"Really, why is that?"

"...Put it simply, I just like...the attention on me I guess. I like it when people look at me as their older brother, tutor, caretaker..."

I just laughed. It wasn't because of anger, sadness, happiness. It was...relief. "Alright, I forgive you." I knew that he might of gotten onto his knees but I interrupted him before he could do anything else. "Let's just hurry up and cut the cabbages up, then we'll talk."

Gilbert turned out be a chill guy once you get to know him. He's very...energetic. Like Alfred. I then paused as I turned off the water, thinking about the entire place. Why were all these kids kept up in captivity, caged in like little rats by a large wall?

"Hey, about the place..." I began, and Gilbert already nodded.

"I know. Pretty damn annoying, huh?" He sighed, wiping the sweat from his forehead using his arm. He tossed the cabbage inside the basket. He then lead me to one of the tables in front of the kitchen. We both sat down. "Go, ask questions."

"Why are you all here?"

"We're not exactly sure. When we arrived here, we thought everything was fine. But-" he pointed towards his head. "We found out there was a gap in our memories. We remember our parents, blah blah blah. But, I think something catastrophic happened. Beyond that, nothing.

"Anyway, we believe that due to the 'incident' or whatever, we were forced down to this place." I nodded in false understanding. "Tell you what, what was the last thing you remember before coming?"

"...Running," I say, giving it more thought. I furrowed my eyebrows. "From something. It wasn't a person. It had a shape of it, but..." Glacing upwards, I saw Gilbert's skin turn paler than usual. "Something wrong?"

"They're called Blazers. You know the stories about zombies, yeah? They're like that." He then pointed out the window, where an large opening was in the walls. "That opening, it never closes.

"Multiple attempts to go inside, it was hell. Blazers roam around there, in various forms."

He held his breath, then let it out.

"Worst part is, they come walking in to our place and start attacking."
