Of course this day couldn't get any better.
Not only was I ditched in some downworld club, in favor for them to 'Go help Clary', I was being followed by the supposed demon our original mission was to kill.
They knew I was still a trainee, being forced to become who I was meant to be, a shadow hunter, or subjecting myself and my little brother to being 'delt with' by the clave. Guess which option I took.
It was bad enough growing up with the sight on the streets after our parents abandoned us, now I had to risk dying everyday just so I could protect my brother, who is currently at middle school. Living the life I should have had the chance to live, but I had to do what I had to in order to provide for Dallas and let him have the option I didn't. Besides Dallas, I felt regret for my soulmate, knowing that I couldn't, no I wouldn't, subject them to this world.
When I was born, my mark was a stark contrast against my pale skin, a lotus flower in bloom that steadily grow into a darker, more defined tattoo on my wrist. So, mourning the life I could never have, I wore a thick, black band around it, and to protect them from anyone with an agenda against me.
So here I was, Being tossed on, what was suppose to be an easy mission, kill the demon, go back, simple. Except for the fact that it wasn't just any old demon, it was a shapeshifter, stronger than a regular demon, and defiantly more skilled than me. So I did the only thing I could do, I got its attention and acted like the oblivious hunter everyone expected me to be.
I was not going to risk all those downworlders lives by jumping for the attack, like most shadow hunters would with no regard for them. However, I wasn't like most of the angel blood, and I actually didn't see a difference between the two besides the hatred they harbored for each other.
Unfortunately though, once we made it out the door, it stupidly lunged at me. Luckily my reflexes had me spinning out of it's claws range, grabbing the sword by my side as I called out its name. While some gawked at the display, others sneered, backing away as the creature lunged again right after. I spun around just in time with it's speratic movements to pierce it in it's stomach, causing the vile, black blood to stain the grass and splatter onto my cloths, but it wasn't done yet as I had studiedly hoped.
Jumping into the crowd in a desperate attempt to injure as many as possible, causing a blind panick to ensue as I ran after it. Skillfully stirring it away from everyone with my blade as they all pilled out but I missed a little girl standing to the side, a girl that had tears streaming down her dark skin as the creature ran straight for her with an outstretched claw.
I wasn't going to be fast enough, but I had to save her, I wouldn't allow this monster to kill this innocent child! So I did the only think I could do in this particular situation. I flung my sword out with precision and watched as it jammed itself into its head. Using it's slowed movements to jump in it's line of sight. Pushing the scared child behind me as I soon felt the sharp talons puncture my stomach.
I coughed out a heavy amount of blood as I pulled out another small knife, my hand shaking as I used all my strength to slam it into it's windpipe. It fell to the ground with a heavy thunk, the talons roughly ripping out of my appendage as it fell, unmoving.
I placed a shaky hand on the gaping wound, stopping some of the blood flow, but it still soaked my hand as it dropped onto the ground, but I forced the pain away as I turned around. Bending my head to look the girl in her blue snake eyes and smiled.
"It alright now, it won't hurt you. Do me a favor and go outside with everyone else."
I closed my mouth as I coughed again, but soon swallowed it so I wouldn't scare her more than she already was as she shook.
"Th-Thank you Miss."
With that she was walking around the demon and out the door, and only then did I allow myself to fall to my knees. Reaching in my pocket to grab my stele, but then remembered Jace 'borrowing it' since he apparently forgot his.
Great.
I was dying, and Dallas was going to be all alone.
With shaky hands, I switched to free my right as I drug out my cheap flip phone, pushing the speed dial to connect me with him. One ring.....Two ring....three ring.....then voice mail. Realizing that he must still be in school I cleared my dry throat as best as I could, after all, this was going to be the last message from me.
Beeeep......
"Hey D-Dally, I-I had an accident and wont be able to p-pick you up from school today like I promised....or tomorrow. I....Its bad this time Dallas....I'm sorry." I pulled my face away as I coughed again, feeling the blood flow down my chin. "You-you better have passed that math test....I tutored you for hours so...............anyway I-I hid the money behind the panel box, take that and find a lady named Catrina in Washington, she-she'll help you, I promise. I love you Dallas, b-be safe. Bye."
With that I hung up, tears streaming down my face having to put that burden on him, he's only twelve, just a kid.
"Oh hunny, That was the saddest call I've ever heard."
I winced as I cranked my head over to see the male behind the voice and froze as I gasped. Feeling the burning tingle on my wrist as I looked into his golden, cat eyes. Though my shock didn't last long as I was pulled into another coughing fit, soon feeling light headed from blood loss. My vision leaving me as I forced myself to look into his concerned eyes. In an instant though he was over me, letting his purple magic wash over my whimpering figure as my hand found purchase on his designer pant leg.
"Well that should hold you off for now love, lets head to my loft so I can give you a more thorough check up."
With that said, his gently picked me up as I gasped out in pain still, pressing my head into his cotton shirt as I gritted my teeth.
It was torture, complete and utter torture as his magic poked and prodded at me like some science project that eventually I got fed up with it, yelling out my frustrations as the pain turned to a dull throb.
"Stop poking at me like I'm some science experiment! Just because your-ow! ow! OW!"
"Stop your fidgeting dear, honestly, I swear it's like I have to completely reconstruct your intestines. Your lucky you survived this long."
At that I had to laugh, just a little chuckle before I was sheathing in pain, "Well, I've been told I can be quit s-stubborn."
I closed my eyes as the last of his magic hit me in full force, a mear second until I was good as new, but it still hurt like hell.
"Now darling, would you tell me more about this 'Dallas', I mean after all, you can trust me."
I looked up over my lashes at his face, seeing the gentle smile as he held a hand out to me. I smiled a small one back, placing my hand in his, expecting him to help me down, but he just wrapped his other arm under my knees, scooping me up without a fuse. Plopping me down on his lap as he leaned back into a faded red sofa, hugging my body close to his as he talked in my ear.
"If I would have known my soulmate would be a shadow hunter, maybe I would have sent out more invitations."
I shivered as his hot breathe tickled the shell of my ear, elating a small moan, which I quickly smothered as I pulled back, (e/c) eyes wide as I realized what I just did. Though, all he did was let out an airy chuckle as he settled me deeper in his lap as his arms played with my (h/l) (h/c) hair, twisting its ends around a ringed finger.
"My names Magnus Bane, care to share your with me darling~"
The Magnus Bane! High Warlock, Magnus Bane?!?!
"Yes darling, your so cute, I love it, I'm glad you know who I am."
He purred to me as his grin seemed to widen.
Shit I said that out loud didn't I?
I looked away in embarrassment, my cheeks exploding in color, though you could hardly tell with the slick layer of sweat and glitter that seemed to stick to me in the crowded club. Taking a steadying breath as I cleared my dry throat.
"M-My names (y/n), (y/n) (l/n), a-and Dallas is my l-little brother."
All he did was let out a hum as he continued to play with my hair, moving his hand down to the small of my back as he pulled me flush into his firm chest.
I didn't know how long we sat like that, just relishing in each others warmth. That is, until my phone ringing on the coffee table it was discarded on earlier nearly giving me a heart attack. Letting out a yelp, I pulled away from Magnus's chest, too lazy to walk the distance, I wrapped my legs around the males waist. Gracefully bending my body back as one of my hands went out to grasp his ankle as leverage, pushing up as my other fumbled a little before I let out a small voice of victory. Not even bothering to check who it was as I pushed the green button, slowly pushing myself up by moving my hand up his leg.
"Hello."
"(Y/n)!!! Oh my God I just listened to your message and.....and I was so scared that you died and-"
Dallas's voice broke off then, losing the battle as I heard the loud sobs on the other line having me let out a pained sound as I answered.
"Hey Hey, shhhh, I'm ok, promise. I-", my own voice going horse as my eyes and throat started to burn with emotion, thankful when I felt a soothing hand make trails along my back.
"Someone healed me, a warlock, but ill pick you up in a-a m-minute. I-I'll tell you everything then."
"O-Ok sis, I expect it. I-I love you."
My heart broke anew as I heard his voice crack, realizing that I was the one that caused it. Sometime in the middle of our conversation, I became tangled in Magnus, my arms and legs snaking around him as my head was rested in the junction of his shoulder.
"I love you too, see you soon"
After I hung up, I snuggled further into the warlock, my soulmate.
"So...you want to come pick up Dallas with me. Then we can.....uh.....talk more, I-I mean if you want."
He waved a hand in the air, changing his tight, leather pants, and low cut shirt into a looser fit, black jeggings and a deep purple sheer top. Then, with a snap, he completely cleaned and repaired my ripped black jeans and blue top.
Setting me down as he stretched out as a cat before rising as well, twining my hand in his as he gave me a dazzling smile. Making my heart beat all the more ferociously as my face heated up.
"I would be honored (Y/n)"
As he dragged me out the door I looked down to our conjoined hand, for the first time feeling complete. The lotus in full bloom on my exposed wrist, matching his own.
Perhaps this world isn't as bad as I thought.
