Axel's Pov ¤

What have I done?

My mate was already reserved when he was brought here, now that I let my Eue take over he's mute. He hasn't said a word since we woke up again. He won't even look at me.

It's in my nature to be dominant. That's who I am. Now, I went and made my mate hate me. All I can hope for is that Michael screwed up as much as I did. The weak bastard probably made cuddling the punishment.

That would work for me now, considering he hasn't lifted his head up to gaze any farther than my feet. If only I had more control over my Eue, then this never would have happened.

The coo coo clock on my wall rang, showing that it was one o'clock. It was time for lunch. The only challenge now is trying to get him to eat it.

I look over to him. He's been staring out the window since I got up, every once and a while looking longingly at my bookcase. The bookcase glances might just be all in my head though. I'm a bit paranoid at the thought of him trying to leave.

"Come, it's time for lunch." I tried to say this in the most nonthreatening voice I had in me.

It didn't work considering how high he jumped. He looked scared, and kept his head done, following me passively.

I never wanted him to be scared of me.

When we got to the kitchen I had him sit at one of the stools. Then I went to work, making him a grilled cheese. I hope he likes it, it's probably the only thing I know how to make without burning it.

"Do you want tomato?" I asked him, desperate for any chance to hear him speak again.

All I got was him shaking his head. He stared blankly at the counter top. He looked like he gave up on everything.

"Okay."

Michael walked into the kitchen looking like a panicked chicken. He didn't calm down till he saw Thomas eating his grilled cheese that I had just finished making. He looked pissed, and I'm not ashamed to admit that it makes me happy.

"When the hell did you leave?" He all but shouted in Thomas's face.

My love didn't reply to him, and continued to be a passive vegetable. He didn't even glance at Mike. Nice to know mistake, that I have every intention to make up to him the best I can, still left us on even territory.

I decided to answer for my love, "Early."

"Yeah, no shit! What did you do, he is even more frightened than before?" His eyes shifted a bit, telling me that he was not in control, or at least on the edge of it.

"That is none of your concern." I'm not willing to let him know my mistake.

"It affects me too-"

"Stop it." A small voice whispered from the corner of the kitchen.

I looked over at my mate. His face was streaked with tears, and he looked to be in pain. He moved to the floor and pulled his knees up to chest, hugging them tightly as if they would shield him from all the bad in the world.

"Why can't I leave? I miss my parents, and my friends. You two are treating me like a piece of meat that you can use to your pleasure however you should please! Just stop it, okay?" He snapped.

His eyes looked broken, his voice rough and cracking from the lack of water intake over the week. It made something inside me crack just looking at how defeated he looked when he uttered the last word. His breathing got heavier, like he was trying to build up the confidence to say one more thing.

"Can't I just go back to the prison cell that is my room?" He sniffled.

Mike took him up to his room. We had replaced his windows with bulletproof glass so he wouldn't be able to break out again.

I spent three hours today trying to figure out how to make it up to Thomas. Since I know Mike's going to go for the flowers, chocolate, stuffed animals, basically just small gestures, I know I have to go bigger.

Taking him to see his family is out of the question, most humans have bunters on speed dial. Taking him on a trip somewhere he has always wanted to go would mean bringing Mike, he would do whatever he could to sabotage me. Best friend, sounds easiest.

Going to school, again, made me instantly think back to the girl he is always with. She was claimed a day before the strike, which means I just have to find her mate. Fae's stick together in times of need, mate battles are the only exception, so it shouldn't be too hard to find her.

I headed off to the files that the coven's keep, the covens are more of sanctuaries now then they are a community. On my way I passed the kitchen and saw my first hypothesis was right. Mike was in the kitchen baking a pie for my mate, small gestures will go a long way if I don't catch up.

With a few 'hello' (s) to the people I passed I reached the files. With these I was able to see who was at the school or at least near it on the 16th.

I was able to conclude that it was either Ash (Ashton, female) Black, or Damien Phox. Ash was a good friend of mine so it would be preferable if she was with Grace.

Ash and I grew up together in one of the larger more spread out covens in neighboring houses. The Fae don't really have a ruler it's more of a democracy with one person, who can't vote on any topics, keeping people from spilling blood. They did the paperwork for the human government and made sure we followed the Fae laws, which were the same for every coven.

I decided to call her up with hopes that she was Grace's mate. It would be more convenient if she was.

The phone rang for a good solid minute before she picked up, "Hello?"

"Hi, it's Axel. I was wondering if I could ask you something?" Mates are a sensitive topic so it's best if I ask her, so she'll be prepared. I only ever ask for permission if it's a sticky subject.

"Sure, what's up?" She popped the "p".

"I was wondering if... um... you found your mate?" I imagined her eyes opening wide as she hears the question, it's a habit of hers. Her mouth would probably be gaping as well, this is the last thing I ever wanted to ask another Fae, no matter how you do it, it's a trap.

"How did you know?" She whispered angrily into the phone.

"Bestfriend powers. What's their name?"

"Grace"

We talked for a bit longer, and she agreed to help with my forgiveness scheme. It was nice to talk to my best friend for a bit, we haven't talked in about 25 years. We moved too far, and responsibilities took up the majority of our time.

She would be flying here in 4 days, they flew to her coven immediately after they found each other. I feel like I just hit the jackpot. I don't know how I'll ever be able to repay her.

Let the games begin Michael. This time I won't screw it up.

N/A:

I will probably edit this chapter during this week, but it should only be one update instead of 20.  This chapter might have significant changes, but shouldn't effect the story line so you won't have to reread it.

I hope y'all are having a magnificent day :)
